Unraveling Tragedy and Intrigue in Red Moon, Blue Sun Teasers

New teasers have been released featuring Kim Sun-ah (Should We Kiss First, Woman of Dignity) for the upcoming mystery thriller, Red Moon, Blue Sun. Kim Sun-ah and Lee Yi-kyung (Suits, Woohoo Waikiki) star as a child psychologist and a detective. Kim Sun-ah’s character finds her life upended after a strange accident. The accident launches Kim on a harrowing search for answers.

The first video starts with a close up on a group of girls playing among autumn leaves in the bright sunlight. As they play we hear a young girl singing a Korean children’s song in the background, “Mountain squirrel / Baby squirrel / Goes on a picnic with acorns for lunch…” The scene then begins to turn creepier as the camera slowly pulls back and the music changes, revealing the children are playing at the end of a dark tunnel — within which there’s a bloody hand laying on the ground. At the end of the teaser, Kim Sun-ah voices, “Red Moon, Blue Sun premiering November 21.”

The second teaser provides a little more about the actual story as it quickly flashes through different shots of a troubled Kim Sun-ah and a mysterious little girl in a green dress. The little girl seems to be an illusion, but seems to be real as well. The viewer is left to wonder which is true. The mystery-thriller element is upped as the clip speeds through unexplained glimpses of traffic, a car accident, a hand reaching out to someone, fire, “murderer” repeated in red writing on scraps of paper, and a mausoleum. We also see Kim Sun-ah’s character arguing with someone on a bridge and then chasing after or looking for someone, possibly the little girl. In voice-over, she says, “Prove that you’re real. If you’re actually… actually real… I will… I will save you. That child is real.”

I’m not usually big on mystery-thrillers, but I do love Kim Sun-ah and I’m liking the feel and cinematography in the clips. Although short, I was quite taken by the shot of Kim Sun-ah unable to see the little girl in green running (away?) in the background as she stood parallel to her and facing the same direction. Will have to add this one to the must watch list.

Red Moon, Blue Sun will be airing Wednesdays and Thursdays on MBC starting November 21.
