Lee Je-hoon, Chae Soo-bin to Headline SBS’s Fox Bride Star

It’s been a while since the potential Hyun Bin/Park Shin-hye pairing for SBS’s Fox Bride Star fell through, but things are looking up for the upcoming melodrama. Lee Je-hoon (Tomorrow With You) has confirmed that he’s signed on to the project, and an offer is currently out to Chae Soo-bin (I’m Not a Robot) to co-star. I think they’ll be cute together, but honestly, I think Chae Soo-bin is cute with anybody.

Fox Bride Star is the newest drama from writer Kang Eun-kyung of the wonderfully layered workplace drama Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim and the amazing, heartfelt family drama What’s With This Family (also Gu Family Book and Baker King Kim Tak-gu, among others), and she’s re-teaming with Gu Family Book’s PD Shin Woo-chul, who is most famous for his longtime collaborations with star writer Kim Eun-sook (A Gentleman’s Dignity, Secret Garden, City Hall, On Air).

The series will be another workplace drama centered around Incheon International Airport, so I expect it to get a lot of comparisons to On Air. I hope, though, that it’ll bear more resemblance to Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim, which was a delightfully quirky take on the medical workplace drama (not to mention that it had a sizzling romance to boot).

The story is about two rookie employees who join the ranks of Incheon Airport’s passenger customer service department, and the various lives of intersecting characters in an environment where countless people pass each other by on a daily basis. Chae Soo-bin is up to play the heroine, a hardworking perfectionist who actually fails miserably at being perfect the way she wants, who tried three times before finally earning her position at the airport. Lee Je-hoon’s character originally dreamed of being a pilot, but his eyesight kept him from fulfilling that dream, and so he joins the general planning department at the airport instead.

The description isn’t anything particularly exciting, but I do have faith in this writer to make the generic-sounding “healing human drama” something to look forward to, so I hope they both sign on.

Fox Bride Star will air later this year on SBS.
