Currently recapping: House on Wheels
Trans-Siberian Pathfinders: I’ve had this on my watchlist since last year and I’ve finally been able to make time and watch. The concept is pretty straightforward, five actor friends come together to take a journey across Russia on the Trans-Siberian Railway. The two oldest members of the cast are Lee Seon-kyun and Kim Nam-gil, and they’re joined by Go Kyu-pil, Kim Min-shik, and Lee Sang-yub as they navigate a new country and a new culture. I’ve only finished the first episode and my main takeaway is that the two hyungs are not great travelers, but watching them fumble and rely on the youngsters is really entertaining. I knew Kim Nam-gil was a big kid at heart from his other variety appearances, but seeing him giving in to his shopaholic side being a goof with his friends is too fun to miss.

Currently weecapping: Graceful Friends
It’s Okay to Not Be Okay: That was an underwhelming and overly saccharine ending. Honestly, I started losing interest in the last few weeks, partly due to the ridiculous mother plot line. Nuance left the building with that one, and she became such a caricature of a villain that her antics actually made me laugh which I don’t believe was the intended effect. Otherwise, it was really well-acted throughout – not that I expected otherwise from this cast – and had a wonderful aesthetic. The fairytale stuff was woven in nicely, and I loved the tone, especially in the earlier episodes. On the whole, I enjoyed this drama, but I do believe the story could’ve been handled a lot better in the latter half.
United Effort to Accomplish One Thing: This was fun from start to finish, and I looked forward to watching it every week. The reveals and overall mystery were paced well, so nothing felt draggy. The mystery itself wasn’t anything revolutionary, but it didn’t need to be. It ended more optimistically than I had expected, but I think it worked. While I’m sad it’s over, it was just the right number of episodes. I hope we get more of these tightly plotted short dramas; it’s nice to watch a drama that doesn’t have to pad the story out in order to fit the typical episode count.
