We hadn’t seen any updates for this show in a while, so I’m glad that we’re hearing more about SBS’s upcoming supernatural-lite legal show While You Were Sleeping. The drama reunites writer Park Hye-ryun (I Hear Your Voice, Pinocchio) with Lee Jong-seok (W—Two Worlds) and Suzy (Uncontrollably Fond), and SBS has announced that the drama has secured its time slot and will premiere this September.
Lee Jong-seok will play a newbie prosecutor who will work with Suzy’s character to prevent the accidents that the unemployed heroine has premonitions of. Shin Jae-ha (Wanted, Page Turner), Go Sung-hee (Spy, My Beautiful Bride), Lee Sang-yub (This Week, My Wife Will Have an Affair), and Jung Hae-in (Night Light) round out the supporting cast. I have reservations about Suzy and Go Sung-hee, but with this writer and the PD’s previous works (Doctors, You From Another Star), I’m trying not to let my expectations run wild.
While You Were Sleeping will be 100 percent pre-produced, and plans to complete filming by the end of June. Out of all the prosecutors running around in dramaland lately, I’ve been looking forward to Lee Jong-seok’s take on the profession the most. I Hear Your Voice and Pinocchio are two of my favorite shows, and when I heard that Lee Jong-seok would be reuniting with writer Park Hye-ryun for a third time, this went straight to the top of my must-watch list. Even Suzy, sporting a bob for the role, being announced as the female lead couldn’t dampen my expectations (much). He does have a knack for selling the romance with his heroines, so I’m going to be glass-half-full for now.
While You Were Sleeping will be a 16-episode drama, and is scheduled to premiere in the Wednesday-Thursday slot after Suspicious Partner and its follow-up drama Reunited Worlds end their runs.
