The upcoming Minecraft Summer Drop is set to introduce adorable new mobs into the expansive blocky universe. While the Nether dimension has already been home to hostile ghasts that launch fireballs, the latest update allows players to acquire small, grumpy dried ghast blocks. You’ll have the opportunity to nurture these blocks into something much more. Join us as we delve into how you can snag your first dried ghast block in Minecraft!
How to Get Dried Ghast Block in Minecraft
Dried ghasts are unique, small, white blocks, limited to the Nether dimension in Minecraft. For those starting on a new world, locating a nearby Ruined Portal may be a bit challenging. Ruined Portals are typically found surrounded by Netherrack terrain and can be present in all Overworld and Nether biomes, except for the Deep Dark. You might discover them on land or even while exploring underwater.
Once you locate a Ruined Portal, you’ll need to gather obsidian and flint and steel to ignite the portal and venture into the Nether. From here, you have three straightforward methods to obtain your first dried ghast block:
1. Find Dried Ghast Blocks Naturally
Dried ghast blocks spawn naturally in the Soul Sand valleys scattered throughout the Nether—just steer clear of the Warped Forest biome. These valleys are predominantly made up of soul sand and soul soil blocks, which have a greyish-brown appearance.
As you explore these valleys, keep an eye out for white Nether fossils. Dried ghasts will often be found nestled among the bone blocks. The good news? You have a 33.3% chance of finding dried ghast blocks in these fossils!
To collect them, break the blocks with your hand or any tool. Just be cautious of the skeletons lurking around—carrying a shield can be a lifesaver.
2. Crafting Dried Ghast Blocks
If you prefer a more hands-on approach, you can craft dried ghast blocks using materials you can gather in the Nether. You’ll need 8 ghast tears and 1 soul sand block. Ghast tears can be obtained by defeating ghasts, while soul sand is commonly found in soul sand valleys.

Once you have the necessary items, open your crafting table. Place the soul sand block in the center and surround it with the ghast tears. This configuration will yield one dried ghast block. Check the image above if you have any doubts.
3. Bartering with Piglins
The third option is to barter with Piglins you encounter in the Nether. You’ll spot Piglins throughout this fiery realm. Make sure you wear at least one piece of gold armor to keep them from attacking you.
To trade with a Piglin, simply toss a gold ingot near them. They will pick it up and examine it, and shortly thereafter, they will throw a random item back at you. There’s only a 2.13% chance of receiving a dried ghast block this way. It’s often more effective to stick to the previous two methods for acquiring these blocks.
Now you know how to obtain a dried ghast block in Minecraft. With the right care, you can cultivate these ghast blocks into cheerful companions. Are you excited to transform this grumpy block into something bright and happy? Share your experiences and thoughts in the comments!
