After Sam removed Lou from the BB, he chose to retreat from society and relocate to Mexico. In this hidden sanctuary, Sam leads a quiet life, raising Lou away from the chaos. Remember when Fragile asked Sam to join her Drawbridge porter crew in the previous game? Back then, he turned her down.

Months later, Fragile tracks down Sam’s secluded location and knocks on his door. She reiterates her offer to him, and this time, he agrees. Together, they aim to connect various regions in Mexico.

During his absence, Sam leaves Lou in Fragile’s care, who promises to look after the baby while he embarks on another porter journey. However, days later, disaster strikes when a group of mech soldiers attacks Sam’s shelter. In a desperate attempt to save Lou, Fragile tries to escape on her unicycle, but she’s shot from behind and crashes.

Sam receives an urgent notification and rushes back, but it’s too late. He finds only Fragile, unconscious. After tending to her wounds, she grimly reveals her failure to protect Lou. She attempted to jump to a different place to evade danger, but tragically, one of the mech soldiers shot Lou during the chaos. When Fragile reaches the beach, she discovers Lou lying lifelessly.

Sam’s heart shatters upon hearing this news. Yet, a glimmer of hope emerges when he sees a tiny BT with wings that enters the BB pod. This moment symbolizes that Lou’s body may have perished, but her essence, or ‘Ka’, remains. Essentially, while Lou’s physical form is lost, her spirit is alive in this realm.

Devastated by Lou’s fate, Sam carries the BB pod with him as he continues on his new quest to unify the Australian continent.

In the sequel, the game gradually unveils Sam’s relationship with his BB and highlights the connections in their shared history. Through your progression, you’ll gradually unravel the mystery surrounding Lou’s status in the narrative.

Crucially, it turns out that Sam has been carrying an empty BB pod all along. Unable to confront Lou’s death, he has been experiencing hallucinations of she as a spirit with visible illusions inside the BB pod. It was Doll Man, not Lou, who helped Sam perceive the BTs by linking with the Odratek sensors.

As Sam comes to terms with Lou’s apparent absence, startling revelations about BB-28’s past surface. Unbeknownst to him, BB-28 is actually Sam’s child, whom he believed to be deceased. Previously, we knew that Sam and his pregnant wife faced a ‘void out’ that took their lives. However, as a repatriate, Sam was given the chance to return to the world of the living.

If you thought that was the game’s biggest twist, hold on. Throughout Death Stranding 2, Higgs hints that Sam knows very little about his BB. The shock mounts when Higgs reveals that Tomorrow is indeed Sam’s daughter.

In a dramatic turn, Higgs kidnaps Tomorrow and teleports to the beach, intending to incite a Last Stranding extinction event. In an exhilarating confrontation with guitars, you help Sam battle Higgs to rescue Tomorrow. So how does Lou transform into Tomorrow? The answer lies with Fragile.

After the epic battle, Sam discovers that Fragile has died. Both Die-Hard Man and Deadman share that when they reach the APAS’s beach, Fragile’s memories of that fateful day resurface. She ultimately clarifies that Lou wasn’t shot but that Fragile suffered an injury while attempting the jump.

In her final words to Sam, she states that Lou managed to connect with the realm of the dead, entering that world successfully. Fragile entrusted Lou to the spirits of the deceased—as a safer option than bringing her back here. While time progresses differently on the beach, Lou grew up, oblivious to her past. Neil had promised to protect Tomorrow, taking on the responsibility for Lucy Bridges’ child.

Upon entering this mysterious realm, Sam unknowingly brought Tomorrow back to life without realizing she was his daughter. By the end of the journey, everything clicks into place for him, just as it does for the players.

In conclusion, Lou is not dead; she is actually Tomorrow (played by Elle Fanning) in Death Stranding 2. Ultimately, she reunites with her father after their harrowing experiences. Moreover, the mid-credit scene hints that Louise might take the lead in a potential Death Stranding 3, should Kojima decide to continue the saga.

Kojima continues to astound with his emotional storytelling, and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is no exception.
