Each week, BitLife drops a themed trial, and this one’s a doozy. The Gatsby challenge, like most, comes with tricky missions to work through.
In this trial, you’ll need to echo the storyline from The Great Gatsby, which means fame, parties, friends, and maybe a bit too much champagne. There’s a lot to get done, so here’s how to complete the Gatsby challenge in BitLife.

There are five goals in BitLife’s Gatsby challenge, all inspired by the novel. Here are the quests you need to finish and how to succeed.
- Live in New York.
- Become a famous author.
- Have 20+ friends.

Live in New York in BitLife
Landing in the Big Apple: ever felt the electric hum the moment you step off the train? That’s the energy your BitLife character needs.
To kick off your Gatsby life, you need to live in New York. The easiest way is to start a new life and select New York as your starting location. If you’d rather move there, select the Activities icon, scroll to Emigrate, and select New York in the United States if it’s available.
New York won’t always be an option, so age up or close and reopen the app to refresh. This might take a few tries, so starting in New York is simpler. You can buy a Golden Passport to choose the location, but that costs real money, so starting a new life in the right spot is best.
What if New York Isn’t Showing Up as an Option?
Don’t panic if the bright lights of NYC aren’t immediately available. The emigration options in BitLife can be finicky. Keep aging up a year and checking, or close and reopen the app. Persistence is key!
Become a famous author in BitLife
Ever watch a writer, hunched over a keyboard in a coffee shop, seemingly lost in another world? That intense focus is what you need to become a literary star in BitLife.
Your next goal is to become a famous author, the most complex task in this challenge. I recommend working on this in the background while focusing on the rest, as it will take a while.
To become a famous author, get a writer position, put in extra hours, and work hard over the years. As long as you put in the work, you’ll eventually get a pop-up letting you know that you’ve gained fame, at which point the goal is complete.
Have 20+ friends in BitLife
Remember those school hallways, buzzing with chatter and cliques? Making friends in BitLife can feel just as chaotic…at first.
The third quest is to have 20 or more friends. This is best done over time, making friends throughout your life instead of trying to get 20 at once.
To make friends, chat with people at school or work to build relationships. You’ll also sometimes get a pop-up letting you know someone wants to be your friend, so say yes when this happens.
The world is a stage, and in this challenge, friends are the supporting cast. Without them, even the grandest mansion feels empty.
Throw 10+ wild parties in your mansion in BitLife
Imagine the thumping bass, the clinking glasses, the murmur of conversations under a chandelier. That’s the vibe you’re aiming for with these parties.
Next, you’ll need to have 10 or more parties in a mansion you own. This is an endgame goal, as you’ll need money to get one. If you become a famous author first, you should have some funds.
Once you have money, select the Assets tab, choose the Go Shopping… option, and scroll down to Real Estate Brokers. Choose an option and search for homes that have “Mansion” in them. If there aren’t any, refresh the options by aging up or closing and reopening the app.
After acquiring a mansion, navigate to it under the Assets page, then select the option to throw a party at it. Repeat this process 10 times to finish. If the option isn’t available after you host one, you’ll need to age up to the next year to throw another party.
How Do I Make Money Fast to Buy a Mansion?
Becoming a famous author is one path, but it takes time. Consider high-paying careers like a surgeon or corporate lawyer to amass wealth quickly. Investing in the stock market can also accelerate your wealth, but be careful, as it can be risky!
Become addicted to alcohol in BitLife
That first sip of champagne, the warm buzz spreading through your veins… It’s a slippery slope, even in the digital world.
The final quest is to become addicted to alcohol. Select the Activities tab, scroll down to Nightlife, and choose any club to visit.
While at any club, you’ll get a random pop-up. These can be interactions with other people, but they can also be about drugs and alcohol. Whenever you get an alcohol-related pop up, always accept the drink.
Continue visiting nightclubs and accepting drinks frequently. If you do this enough, you’ll eventually get a pop-up letting you know that you are addicted to alcohol, at which point you’ll officially be finished with the Gatsby challenge.
