In the restless sea of Rust, you’ve crafted your survival strategy, and now, the horizon beckons. But a weak vessel might soon have you sinking beneath the waves instead of exploring the treasures hidden in the Deep Sea. You can’t afford to leave your boat behind—its potential is yours to mold.
As vital tools in the new Naval update, boats aren’t just a mode of transport; they are your ticket to adventure. Want to tweak your ride to perfection? This guide will reveal the steps you need to take to customize your boat in Rust.
Starting from Scratch
Creating your boat marks the beginning of your maritime journey. You’ll need a Boat Building Station to set sail. Once you’ve assembled the basics at the Helm, your vessel is prepared for the water.

To modify your boat, return to the Helm/Steering Wheel. Hold the Interaction button and select Deploy and Edit. This will transition your boat into building mode, offering you a canvas for your creativity.
As you shape your vessel, keep in mind certain limitations you’ll need to follow. Once you finish editing, head back to the Helm to finalize your changes. Want to tweak it again? Just repeat the previous steps.

Maximizing Your Boat’s Potential
Think of your boat as an extension of your strategy in the world of Rust. Just like a painter selects their colors, you’ll choose from various upgrades based on resource availability and workbench tier.
What upgrades can I make to my boat in Rust?
- By adding more sails, you can significantly increase speed. Sails are fuel-free, making this a resourceful choice for a swift journey.
- More engines mean more power, although they will consume extra fuel. To craft an engine, you’ll need access to a level 2 workbench.
- Cannons become essential as you enter Deep Sea territories. Encounters with adversaries can be fierce, and a well-placed cannon shot can turn the tide in your favor.
To create a cannon, gather the following resources:
- Level one Workbench
- 100 Wood
- 200 Metal Fragments
And when it comes to cannonballs, you’ll need:
- Level one Workbench
- 50 Metal Fragments
- 15 Gun Powder
Lastly, consider adding planks and ramps. They aren’t strictly necessary but enhance accessibility and maneuverability across your boat.
The open seas await. Are you ready to transform your boat into a maritime masterpiece, or will the waves of adversity swallow you whole?
