Black Ops 7 Season 3 Patch Notes: Plaza, Gridlock & 6 New Weapons

Black Ops 7 Season 3 Patch Notes: Plaza, Gridlock & 6 New Weapons

Two matches in, your squad is pinned behind a crate while someone yells that a “mid-season map” dropped. I locked my phone and watched the lobby refill—season three landed faster than anyone expected. You should be paying attention: this update rearranges more than playlists.

I’ve sifted the early notes so you don’t have to. Below I break down what changes on April 2, what’s coming later, and the things that will actually alter how you queue and play.

BO7 season 3 patch notes

At coffee break, the squad chat was already arguing about the new weapon loadouts.

Season Three for Black Ops 7 launches April 2 with a cross-mode content drop courtesy of Activision and Treyarch. Two weapons and several maps hit on day one via the Battle Pass and playlists, while the rest arrive across timed events and mid-season updates. I’ll flag where you get each item and which changes are likely to matter in ranked play.

Six weapons

In the locker room, players are testing recoil charts and build ideas already.

Season three brings six new hardware options across the Battle Pass and events. Two weapons drop on launch (the MK35 ISR assault rifle and the VST SMG), with the Strider 300 sniper and the 1911 pistol arriving in-season. Later, a Siren special weapon and a Katana melee hit mid-season as event rewards. Treat the MK35 as a contender for steady assault play; the VST should please close-quarters players who favor mobility over range.

I call the Siren a wildcard—its arrival will force weapon-balance conversations in pro and pub lobbies.

  • MK35 ISR assault rifle (Battle Pass)
  • VST SMG (Battle Pass)
  • Strider 300 sniper rifle (in-season)
  • 1911 pistol (in-season)
  • Siren special weapon (mid-season)
  • Katana melee weapon (mid-season)

How do I get the MK35 ISR and VST SMG?

Both are Battle Pass rewards—grab tiers or wait for free-week challenges if you’re not buying tiers. Activision’s seasonal roadmap and the in-game Battle Pass panel in the menus will show exact unlock tiers and any XP double events that speed the grind.

Eight maps

On the commute, everyone mentioned one map name: Plaza.

Season three launches with eight maps total: two brand-new arenas, three remakes, and several mid-season drops. Notably, Black Ops 2 classic Plaza and Black Ops 4’s Gridlock appear at launch. Summit and Hacienda return mid-season as remakes, while Onsen joins the list later. The mix is intended to balance sprinty, close-quarters play with more tactical routes—expect loadouts and perk choices to shift accordingly. The new maps feel like a late-night update that rearranges the furniture in your favorite bar.

What new maps are in Black Ops 7 Season 3?

See list above. Expect Summit and Hacienda to roll out during mid-season events—watch the official Treyarch Twitter and the Activision blog for dates and playlist swaps.

New game modes

At the end of a hot lobby, someone asked for “something less sweaty.”

Treyarch is bringing back Demolition and adding rotating party modes to keep matchmaking fresh. Aim High and Snipers Only arrive on launch, while Freerun, Heat Wave Havoc, and Freeze Tag show up mid-season. These modes change meta incentives: freeruns favor movement builds, Snipers Only resets weapon diversity, and Demolition revives objective-based map flow that a lot of players miss.

  • Demolition
  • Aim High
  • Snipers Only
  • Freerun (mid-season)
  • Heat Wave Havoc (mid-season)
  • Freeze Tag (mid-season)

New Scorestreak

People in Discord immediately started theorycrafting the best counters.

The Ion Core Scorestreak lands via weekly challenge. It’s a large-area radiation device that pulses through walls, expanding before recharging. Score requirement: 1,175. Two overclock abilities modify duration and pulse frequency—Plutonium Core adds another pulse, Chemical Catalyst shortens downtime. If you play objective modes, this will force teams to change positioning and equipment choices.

Limited-time events

During downtime, I watched players chase time-gated rewards like seasonal Pokémon.

Season three adds several events across modes with free unlocks: Zombies-focused Survivors of Ash offers weapon camos and a blueprint; The Lost Outpost spreads rewards across all modes—Strider 300 sniper, camos, a blueprint, and an operator skin. There’s also a Call of Duty Endowment Challenge and a Freerun event tied to the mid-season schedule. These events are where free players can score meaningful kit additions without buying premium tiers.

  • Survivors of Ash (Zombies)
    • Rewards: Weapon camos, weapon blueprint
  • The Lost Outpost (all modes)
    • Rewards: Strider 300 sniper rifle, camos, blueprint, operator skin
  • Call of Duty Endowment Challenge event
  • Freerun event

When does Season 3 start?

Season three begins April 2 across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Watch Activision’s launcher messages and the in-game News panel for exact time windows and downtime announcements.

Endgame updates

In the lobby, half of the players asked if Endgame would finally go free-to-play again.

Treyarch is opening the PvE Endgame mode for a limited free-to-play window to start the season, and it receives several content boosts. You can reset Combat Rating or Skill Track if you want to re-specialize. The big addition is a new feature called Operations: a string of objectives meant to be cleared across multiple matches. Complete objectives to earn blueprint rewards, emblems, XP tokens, and access to the Link Forger Glitch Fracture when you finish the final task.

There’s also a fresh skill track, a Minor ability, and a Major ability to keep progression interesting. If you’re invested in PvE progression or play with a regular four-man squad, this mode’s update is where you’ll spend time farming new cosmetics.

Operations will hand out practical rewards for team play and are designed to push players toward a final boss-like objective. I liken the new Endgame features to a swiss army knife of gadgets for PvE squads—more tools, more reasons to queue with friends.
