If you want to climb the ranks in the GO Battle League, you’ll need to face off against other trainers throughout the current Pokemon GO season. To ensure you prepare accordingly, let’s break down which Pokemon are banned in the Go Battle League during the current Max Out season.
Dates for the Current GO Battle League Season in Pokemon GO
The current Max Out season in the GO Battle League runs from September 3 through December 3, 2024.
Different competitions will be available throughout the season, with various league levels and special cups offered. Trainer ranks reset at the start of each new season, so players must re-earn their high rank every few months.
In the standard leagues, Pokemon are limited only by their CP, with a different cap for each level from the Great League to the Master League. However, each season brings a list of banned Pokemon that cannot compete in certain events.
Pokemon Banned From the Galar Cup: Little Edition
The Galar Cup focuses on Pokemon from Pokemon Sword and Shield, and only Pokemon found in that region’s Pokedex are eligible.
For the Little Edition, these Pokemon must have a CP no higher than 500.
Pokemon Banned From the Psychic Cup: Great League Edition
The Fossil Cup is a contest for Psychic-type Pokemon of 1500 CP or lower. No other types of Pokemon are permitted to participate in this special cup. In addition, the following Pokemon are banned:

Pokemon Banned From the Galar Cup: Great League Edition
The Galar Cup: Great Edition will test your skills with Pokemon from the Galar region, so only those found in the Pokemon Sword and Shield Pokedex may enter. They must also be at or below 1500 CP.
For this season, no individual Pokemon are listed as banned from competing.
Pokemon Banned From the Sunshine Cup
The Sunshine Cup allows entry for Normal, Fire, Grass, and Ground-type Pokemon. There is no specific CP cap for this cup. However, the following individual Pokemon are banned:

Pokemon Banned From the Halloween Cup: Little Edition
Little Edition cups require that all Pokemon be at or below 500 CP. For the Halloween Cup, you’ll need to use Poison, Bug, Ghost, Dark, or Fairy-type Pokemon.

Pokemon Banned From the Halloween Cup: Great League Edition
Similar to the Little Cup edition, the Halloween Cup: Great League Edition is all about Poison, Bug, Ghost, Dark, or Fairy-type Pokemon. This time around, you can go up to a 1500 CP.
No individual Pokemon are banned.
Pokemon Banned From the Master Premier
Similar to the Ultra Premier, there are no specific Pokemon banned from this free-for-all contest that has no limit on your Pokemon’s CP.
However, Legendary Pokemon, Mythical Pokemon, and Ultra Beasts are not permitted to compete. Sadly, that means leaving your fused Necrozma on the shelf for this one.
Pokemon Banned From the Great League Remix
The Great League remix is intended to give trainers in the GO Battle League a real challenge, and as such, there are some pretty strict guidelines on which Pokemon can complete.
This contest will rule out the 20 Pokemon that are most popular among trainers who achieve the Ace rank and beyond. That means the following popular Pokemon can’t participate:

Pokemon Banned from the Willpower Cup
The Willpower Cup challenges Fighting, Psychic, or Dark-type Pokemon with a 1500 CP or below.
No specific Pokemon are banned from this challenge, so long as they meet the type and CP requirements.
Pokemon Banned From the Retro Cup
The Retro Cup has just one rule: no Dark, Steel, or Fairy-type Pokemon. Otherwise, it’s a free-for-all.
Pokemon Banned From the Catch Cup: Max Out Great Edition
This season will feature a Great Edition Catch Cup. Pokemon must be at or below 1500 CP to enter this contest.
Catch Cups are designed to have trainers compete using the Pokemon they caught during the current Pokemon GO season, which means any Pokemon not caught between September 3 and December 3, 2024, are banned.
