A Little Algae Problem Walkthrough – Disney Dreamlight Valley

A Little Algae Problem Walkthrough - Disney Dreamlight Valley

The tide had left pale fingerprints along Moontide’s shore. I crouched over a glittering patch and understood the Celestial Celebration might not happen without it. You’re on a short clock to gather what Pocahontas needs.

A damp stretch of sand, littered with driftwood and ruins — here’s the quick plan to finish the A Little Algae Problem quest.

I’ll walk you through every snag: recruiting helpers, using Pocahontas’s Yehakin, digging and fishing for Glowing Algae, and the final group photo. Stay with me and you’ll save time, avoid backtracking, and get the whole gang to cooperate. If you play on Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, Steam or the Epic Games Store, these steps apply the same.

Three friendly faces at the plaza are the simplest way to spread the workload — ask them before you leave the Valley.

Pocahontas wants to return to Moontide Island but she asks you to talk to other villagers first. Seek out Jasmine, Cinderella, and Mother Gothel and accept their help. Their yeses let you bring a small team, which reduces time spent fishing and digging later.

A wooden oar resting on blotted sand — use the Yehakin to cross back to Moontide Island.

Head to Pocahontas’s Yehakin in your village and interact with the white sparkles by the oars to ride to Moontide. Once you land, chat with Pocahontas to trigger the next objectives.

Where do I find Glowing Algae?

Glowing Algae appear as bright dig spots on the island’s beaches and as rare catches in golden fishing pools. You need a mix of digging and fishing to reach the total quickly.

Rubble from the recent storm litters the high tide line — clear it so your camp can breathe.

Equip the Royal Pickaxe and smash six rocks around the beach area. That clears paths and unlocks a brief cutscene with Pocahontas once you’re done.

A stretch of shoreline dotted with sparkling soil — dig methodically and you’ll find the first half of what you need.

Use your Royal Shovel to dig up five pieces of Glowing Algae from sparkling spots. The fastest route is to circle the outer edge of Moontide Island; the dig spots hug the waterline. If the seed of curiosity pushes you to explore, don’t stray too far—concentration beats aimless searching.

How many pieces of Glowing Algae do I need?

You need a total of five pieces to satisfy Pocahontas. You can get them all by digging, but Mike’s confession turns part of this into a fishing run — which is faster if you plan the route below.

The camp looks like a hastily assembled bookshelf — you’ll need to bring the right supplies to finish it.

Pocahontas asks you to gather materials and one item from her Yehakin. Collect the following and bring them to Jasmine on Moontide Island:

  • 15 Softwood — found on the ground near trees in places like the Plaza, Peaceful Meadow, Forest of Valor, and Glade of Trust.
  • 10 Hardwood — drops near trees in Forest of Valor, Glade of Trust, Sunlit Plateau, and Frosted Heights.
  • Six Clay — dug up across Glade of Trust, Sunlit Plateau, Forgotten Lands, and Pixie Acres.
  • Four Glass — craft from five Sand plus one Coal Ore.
  • One Special Resin — sitting inside Pocahontas’s Yehakin on the back right corner near the drum; you must briefly leave Moontide Island to retrieve it.

A lone footprint trail leads to a cave mouth — follow it to find Pocahontas and an unexpected guest.

Walk past Jasmine and Cinderella at camp and hug the right edge of the island to find Pocahontas beside a cave. She needs backup — and you’ll soon discover why.

A pile of jagged stones blocks the cave entrance — break them and meet the “beast.”

Use your Royal Pickaxe to smash the rocks next to Pocahontas. Behind them you’ll find Mike Wazowski, who confesses to eating the algae. Chat with him and accept his offer to help fish the rest.

A small boat bobs at the dock — take it and work the fishing spots like a checklist.

Follow Mike to Moana’s boat (the same one from the Whispers in the Wind quest) and pick North: The Mystery Island Wreckage first. Equip the Royal Fishing Rod and cast into golden ripple pools. Then visit East: The Mystery Island Rocks, South: The Mystery Island Beach, and finish at West: The Mystery Island Dock, which has two golden pools.

By the end of those four stops you should have the remaining Glowing Algae to reach five pieces total. Return to Moontide Island and talk to Pocahontas to hand everything over.

How do I fish Glowing Algae efficiently?

Target golden ripple spots only, use the Royal Fishing Rod, and follow the boat route above. Mike’s help speeds the run — treat it like a short rotation in a raid: predictable, repeatable, and efficient.

A small clearing with lanterns and shells — end the quest with the whole group in frame.

To wrap up, take a photo that includes Pocahontas, Jasmine, Cinderella, and Mike in front of the decorations. Then chat with Pocahontas one final time; she’ll mention Meeko and nudge the narrative forward.

Play smart: clear the rocks, gather the materials, split digging and fishing duties, and you’ll finish faster than wandering aimlessly like a boat in fog. Think of the island as a small clockwork—once each gear (villagers, digging, fishing) turns, the rest snaps into place.

So — do you think Mike should be banned from snacks or forgiven for trying to help afterward?
