How do I unlock all the shelters in Road to Vostok?

I’ll be blunt: each shelter plays by its own rules. Treat the map like a frostbitten atlas stitched with a red thread—you follow one line at a time.

  • Cabin: This one is free from the start. Use it as your staging ground while you learn the Village loop and manage early gear.
  • Attic: Found above the Generalist (the trader). Head right from the Cabin to his shop and finish all his quests to earn the key. If he refuses items, click Start Delivery and manually pull the goods from your inventory. You can also stumble onto the key as random loot—I’ve seen it in the School Sports Hall.
  • Classroom: At the School, this one requires three oil samples. Those samples spawn inside permadeath areas, and getting all three in one run is unlikely. If you’re short on luck, prioritize one or two and rotate attempts—enemies there can be brutal.
  • Tent: Walk straight through the School to the Outpost; the Tent is immediately left and free to claim. You’ll need shelves from the doctor later before it becomes a proper storage spot.
  • Bunker: On the left side of the valley in Outpost. The gun trader holds the key but only after you finish his job: eliminate the Punisher, retrieve his hat, and trade it for the key.
  • Apartment Room (Vostok): This is the high-risk prize. Cross the border checkpoint, then search highly secure military zones for a chance at the key. Vostok enforces permadeath—if you die there you lose everything and start over.

Where are the shelters located and which should I take first?

Start in the Cabin and treat it like a home base; the others are upgrades or detours depending on your playstyle. The Tent is the easiest to claim after the School run, while the Bunker and Vostok Room ask for violent favors or gambling with permadeath. If you use Steam community guides or forums like Moyens I/O, you’ll find players trading route tips and coordinates—lean on those threads when you need a push.

The Attic sits like a locked diary above the trader: finish his errands, and he slides the key into your palm. The Classroom and Vostok require patience and acceptance of loss; the rewards are quiet but meaningful.
