My teammate dies in the middle of a 420-day wave because he chose a class that shines only until day 150. I watched the base crumble while the timer ticked and thought: that should have been avoidable. You don’t want your Emeralds spent on a class that folds when the real pressure comes.
I’ve played long raids, carried teams, and tested how each class scales past Wave 300. Below I’ll give you a compact map for buying and building: which classes carry, which fill, and which sit on the bench after day 200. Read this like you’re spending USD—because every Emerald you keep or waste shapes the next hundred waves.
Survive the Apocalypse Class Tier List
On a 500-day run I learned who actually carries and who performs well on paper but crumbles under swarm pressure.
Before we unpack the tables, here are the tier definitions I use when advising you or my raid group:
- S-Tier: The Meta DPS and Support classes that are crucial for any team comp going past 300 days.
- A-Tier: Excellent filler alternatives.
- B-Tier: Situationally just as powerful as A-Tier but require more setup.
- C-Tier: Decent classes that can be useful but are overall weaker than higher-tiers.
- D-Tier: Weak classes that I don’t recommend you use.

Best Beginner Class?
Assassin and Soldier are my starter DPS picks for solo and teams; Farmer and Engineer are the easiest supports to learn when you play with others on Discord or private servers.
What is the best class in Survive the Apocalypse?
Short answer: Psychic for raw late-game DPS and Commander for team support. I’ll explain how each functions inside a real raid and which swaps matter when you’re down two players.
Which class should I buy first with Emeralds?
If you prefer carrying solo, buy Psychic; if you want to guarantee team success on high waves, buy Commander or Engineer.
S-Tier Classes
I watched a Commander singlehandedly clear a 310 wave while two teammates retreated for supplies — that’s why I value support scaling.
| S-Tier Classes | Ranking Reasons |
|---|---|
Psychic |
• Psychic is the most powerful DPS class in the game• Wielding 4 weapons dominates the late-game and the shield is some of the best defense in the game• Your biggest weakness is ammo but you can manage this with smaller weapons in your Remote Arsenal• Plus if you’re playing in a team you can carry exceptionally well so ask your teammates for ammo support• You even have some support utility with the extra interact range for reviving teammates |
Commander |
• Commander is the best support class in the game for mid-to-late-game waves• It’s all about ranged weapons at 300+ so increasing your team’s DPS and airstriking is OP• Plus you start with the best weapon in the game making early reactors a breeze |
Engineer |
• Engineer is one of the two best team utility classes for late-game• The game turns into a pseudo tower defense post Wave 300 so buffing walls and structures is really strong• You should be handling all the buildings and Engi is a must in any team |
Farmer |
• Farmer is the other best team utility class for keeping everyone’s hunger up• With Farmer you basically secure your hunger bar for the entire game• But note that you should be the only one growing carrots since your’s are better• The best team comps always have one Engi and one Farmer |
A-Tier Classes
During a co-op session on Roblox, an Assassin kept the reactors safe while others skirmished — A-Tier fills like that quietly win runs.
| A-Tier Classes | Ranking Reasons |
|---|---|
Assassin |
• Assassin is the best DPS class to rush if you don’t want to get the 1000 Emerald classes• All you have to do is stay to the sides of waves, go into first person and try to land as many headshots as you can• Reactors are easy since you can snipe enemies from range• Get Sniper and then Heavy Sniper ASAP for the maximum headshot damage multiplier• Plus, Assassin has less ammo problems than Psychic so it’s a better class in this area |
Necromancer |
• Necromancer used to be S-Tier but it’s a bit weaker since the nerf• That said it’s still an incredibly useful class since you can raise zombies to tank for your team• Just make sure to use the revive on stronger zombies like Raiders so get better corpses near you before using since the CD is high• Really strong for solo and for teams it’s just a better Guardian• That said, for a 1000 Emerald class I would get Psychic or Commander first unless you really like the playstyle |
B-Tier Classes
In a quick 200-day run, I swapped to a Fragger and the grenade arcs changed how we held a chokepoint — B-Tier classes are timing and setup dependent.
| B-Tier Classes | Ranking Reasons |
|---|---|
Berserker |
• Berserker is the best melee class in the game and is overall pretty strong in the early and mid-game• That said melee falls off hard in the late-game since you don’t have as much sustain• Still, you can pull off a lot of damage in the mid-game with Chainsaw and Sledgehammer• Just make sure to kite enemies and keep them at your max melee range to avoid unnecessary hits• Taking damage for Rage isn’t that worth it in the late-game since you can also generate Rage with your hits |
Fragger |
• Fragger is the opposite of Berserker where it’s weak early and mid-game but pretty strong in the late-game• That said you have to get the Grenade Launcher for maximum power and then you deal a lot of AOE damage• Also make sure to keep at least one stack of Molotov and Grenade for the +1 stack on second ability |
Soldier |
• Soldier is just overall decent since the AK is great for early reactor runs• You fall off as the game goes since you don’t have damage boosts like Assassin• That said while you don’t have burst damage the reload and firing speed buff make you pretty good with top-tier weapons |
Hunter |
• Hunter is overall weaker than all the classes above in raw damage but he’s great for crowd-control and stuns• This is because you can stack dozens of bear traps around camp that damage and rearm• This is really strong in high-end days for free damage and stuns• That said his lack of DPS means he’s better in teams than solo |
C-Tier Classes
I once ran a 250-day game with no Farmer and the team starved mid-wave — C-Tier supports matter when you don’t have S-tier utilities.
| C-Tier Classes | Ranking Reasons |
|---|---|
Medic |
• Medic is just an overall decent class to have in a team of 4 or more• That said he’s not better than the higher tier support classes• This is because if you play right you have plenty of time to regen naturally and won’t take as much damage• That said, in a pinch and especially for newer players give Medic all your healing items and he’ll keep everyone healthy |
Guardian |
• Guardian is a niche tank class to taunt all enemies into one place for easy clears• The problem is that Necromancer does Guardian’s job 10x better• If you don’t have Necro Guardian is decent if you’re on voice comms to coordinate taunt spamming• Otherwise it’s just a weak overall class and shouldn’t be used solo ever |
Survivor |
• Decent if you don’t have Farmer for constant food• Doesn’t contribute much to the team but then again doesn’t require as much food as others• That said the 1-lethal-hit ignore is pretty much useless since there’s a lot of chip damage in STA and you’ll just die after |
Policeman |
• Okay for rushing early reactors• Pistols are weak so this class is weak early and mid game• That said, since Desert Eagle is one of the best weapons in the game Policeman can be pretty decent later |
Scavenger |
• Note the best class in the game overall• That said has some team utility since he can go around looting everything and bringing it back to the base faster |
D-Tier Classes
At a low-pressure community event, Fighters and Explorers were fine — but that doesn’t translate to marathon waves with limited resupplies.
| D-Tier Classes | Ranking Reasons |
|---|---|
Fighter |
• Melee is weak later and Fighter has an accuracy debuff making it one of the weaker classes in the game |
Explorer |
• Not a lot of contribution for neither solo nor team runs |
Best Guns and Melee Weapons in Survive the Apocalypse
I logged hours comparing weapon scaling across classes and mapped which guns carry past Wave 300.
Short list for class-weapon pairing and team priorities:
- Best Guns: Desert Eagle, AA-12, Heavy Sniper and Ray Gun are the guns you want on classes that scale with them like Heavy Sniper for Assassin.
- Alternative Guns: Flamethrower, Sniper, LMG and Double Barrel are excellent secondary picks if a class doesn’t depend on a specific weapon.
- Special Notes
- Grenade Launcher/Fragger: Always give the Grenade Launcher to your Fragger since this is an S-Tier weapon for that class.
- Desert Eagle/Policeman: If you’re playing Policeman the Desert Eagle should always go to you since this class boosts the already OP best weapon in the game.
- Special Notes
- Best Melee Weapons: Chainsaw and Sledgehammer should go to Berserker and Fighter since they scale best with these weapons.
- Alternative Melee Weapons: Katana, Mace, Fire Axe and Scythe are solid second choices when the primary melee options aren’t available.
I treat each class like a role in a raid on Roblox or a coordinated run over Discord: some players are Swiss army knives, others are a lighthouse in a storm.
Final tip: if you’re buying a 1000-Emerald class, ask yourself whether you want raw carry (Psychic), team authority (Commander), or long-term utility (Engineer / Farmer). Which would you pick when your team needs to survive another hundred waves?
