All Phasmophobia Player Models & Backstories Guide

The van’s heater rattled while the GPS slowly recalculated. I watched you tighten your grip on the recorder as footsteps died in the hallway. In that pause, the game’s models stopped being avatars and started feeling like people with mistakes and motives.

I’ve tracked updates this big before; you can tell when a studio moves from utility to story because the small details change how you play. You’ll recognize names, choices, and subtle cues if you pay attention the way I do—slow, methodical, and a little suspicious. Below I’ll point out what matters when you pick a face for a midnight investigation.

The update added weight to what used to be anonymous silhouettes. There are 12 unique player character models in Phasmophobia, each now carrying a name, a look, and a story you can use to frame your next play session. Pick a model for style, pick a name for role-playing, or pick both because that tiny choice changes how you tell the story to your squad.

How many player character models are in Phasmophobia?

There are twelve playable models. Kinetic Games shipped the change through Steam and the update notes gave each a distinct silhouette, voice cues, and backstory text in the GHD hub—details that help you role-play without a script.

Do Phasmophobia characters have backstories?

Yes. Each recruit now arrives with a short bio that hints at skills, trauma, or temperament. These blur the line between purely cosmetic choices and small narrative hooks you can exploit while streaming on YouTube or organizing a custom server run.

Names matter because they give you an angle for every haunting. Below is the official roster of bios straight from the update table—read them, choose someone whose past scratches at the type of story you want to tell, and then play the part. Faces and histories are now tools you can use like a flashlight stabbing through a blackout and like a moth circling a porchlight.

Image Name Backstory
Amir in Phasmophobia Amir Kelly Amir is a hacker who is most comfortable when behind a computer screen. He was told to find a job and get a life, yet somehow stumbled his way into this position.
Nic in Phasmophobia Nic Karlsen Nic is a quiet, soft-spoken Professor of Parapsychology. His beliefs were never taken seriously until he found this position. He was given the nickname “Professor Spooky” in the past, and it continues to haunt him wherever he goes.
Vince in Phasmophobia Vince Ravenhill Vince was wrongly accused of a crime and ended up in prison for it. Upon making it out, he set out looking for a second chance in life. GHD was one of the only places that offered it to him. He’s known for having a golden retriever personality that may be at risk in his grim new lifestyle.
Robin in Phasmophobia Robin Byrne Robin is a gifted, cocky guy who loves to play devil’s advocate. He’s incredibly smart and isn’t quite sure what to do with his life, so now puts it on the line as he tries to figure it all out.
Bryce in Phasmophobia Bryce Noble Bryce is the unspoken leader of the GHD recruits. He’s looking for an excuse to dodge a return to a normal civilian life after a forced early retirement from the army.
Dustin in Phasmophobia Dustin Park Dustin is often told he doesn’t take anything seriously, especially by his mom. He’s quite unbothered, though, so he doesn’t take this criticism to heart. His position with GHD is the second time he’s landed a big, high-stakes job, so he might actually care a bit more than he lets on.
Winona in Phasmophobia Winona Fields Winona is a skeptic to her very core and only believes things when she sees them for herself. And even then, she still requires some extra proof. With her position at GHD, she’s found something strange and terrifying that can’t be debunked, and isn’t quite sure whether this discovery is freeing or horrifying.
Kira in Phasmophobia Kira Calcada Kira is quite imaginative and whimsical, which often leads to her being perceived as unconventional. She’s often told her head is in the clouds, but she is actually a lot more perceptive than people take her for.
Grace in Phasmophobia Grace Xu Grace is a walking enigma, so much so that Grace may not even be her real name. Everyone finds her quite difficult to read, even her fellow coworker, Evie, a former Intelligence Agent. Grace is rumored to have a very dark past, and considering how unfazed she is by this position, she’s suspected of having been through and seen far worse.
Evie in Phasmophobia Evie Petrova Evie is quite a force to be reckoned with. She’s fueled by pure determination and spite, and believes that whatever you choose to do, you’ve got to give it your all and do it well. She’s the closest individual you’ll find to a “responsible adult” in this workplace.
Meg in Phasmophobia Meg Marrs Meg previously ran a fake ghost-hunting business with some friends. Upon discovering that ghosts were actually real, all her friends freaked out and quit. Meg, on the other hand, saw it as a chance to double down and became fully invested in the lifestyle.
Zara in Phasmophobia Zara Doshi Zara is an oddly bubbly individual you wouldn’t expect to find in this field. She’s not your average person and is quite compassionate to both the dead and the living. Zara is determined to make a real difference.

If you want to play differently, pick a character whose backstory gives you a reason to be reckless, careful, loud, or silent. Streamers on YouTube and modders using Unity and Blender have already started mixing cosmetics and voice mods, and Kinetic Games’ update notes point toward story-led seasonal content and even an announced movie listing on IMDb.

So when you load up tonight—whether you’re chasing weekly challenges, hunting for Slenderman rumors, recording audio and video evidence, or chasing hidden achievements—who do you choose to stand in the doorway with you and make the first call: the ex-soldier, the skeptic, or the enigma with no name?
