I sprinted after Phil and almost missed him—he’s already two steps past the waterfall, muttering about moonlight and gods. The fog presses in, heavy and theatrical, like a velvet curtain hiding the next cue. You and I both know one misstep here turns a short fetch into a choke point that costs time and patience.
I’ll walk you through the Moonlighting as a Hero quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley step by step, in plain terms you can act on right now. Follow my path and the detours I tested on PC via Steam and console builds; I’ve replayed the sequence until the route stops surprising me. Expect quick calls-to-action, one trick you can repeat, and a short video if you want to copy my run.
Phil barrels past the waterfall — Explore the Hercules area
The moment you load into the Hercules area Phil runs by in a cutscene. If you spawn facing the falls, head straight then take the right turn before the waterfall and follow the path down to the clearing. You’ll find Phil pacing near the Artemis Pedestal; talk to him to start the quest.

The air feels colder near the thorns — Investigate the dark thorns and strange fog
Phil gives you your first task right away: inspect the dark thorns that front the misty path. Stand next to the thorn patch and press the on-screen prompt labeled Investigate. The game will log a hint: “If you need help from the moonlight, a gift to the gods will brighten the night.” That sentence is the clue; treat it like a breadcrumb.

Phil waits at the pedestal — Return to Phil and plan
After you read the clue, go back to the Artemis Pedestal in the center of the clearing and speak with Phil. He’ll point you to the pool beneath the waterfall—this is where the “gift” shows up, and where the next short task begins.
Water ripples behind the falls — Fish out the Moon Headband
Equip your Royal Fishing Rod and aim for the sparkling ripple directly behind Phil, under the falls. Cast into that shine and you should reel up a Moon Headband. Once you have it, place it on the Artemis Pedestal and talk to Phil again.

How do I get the Moon Headband in Moonlighting as a Hero?
Cast at the glowing fishing spot behind the waterfall using the Royal Fishing Rod. If it isn’t visible, move around the pool edge—spawns can shift. This step is the same on PC and console versions and is often captured in short clips on YouTube or Twitch if you want a visual reference.
The ground shows faint sparkles — Gather some offerings in the clearing
Artemis wants natural offerings. Phil will ask you to bring three of each item: Greek Clay, Greek Flowers, and Sylvan Wood. Here’s the fastest method that worked for me on Steam and Switch builds.
- Dig up three piles of Greek Clay. Equip the Royal Shovel and hit sparkling mud patches. Spawn points vary; I found mine by the waterfall pool.
- Pick three Greek Flowers. Search for bundles—each bundle contains Crimson, Teal, and Fuchsia Eternal Poppies. Mine were tucked under trees near the pedestal and next to the Realm entrance.
- Gather three Sylvan Wood. Use the Royal Shovel on small tree stumps. They’re usually near the woods left of the waterfall and close to the stone podium by the entrance.
Pebbles and flowers sit ready — Place the natural element offerings on the Artemis Pedestal
Once you have three of each, return to the Artemis Pedestal and interact to add the offerings. The Moon Headband will pulse. Pick it up and wear it—this allows you to clear Night Thorns the same way you do elsewhere in the Valley.
Phil leads left of the falls — Make your way with Phil toward the Arena
Follow Phil to the left of the waterfall. Use the Moon Headband to interact with the thorn patches blocking the path to the Arena entrance. Once you pass the thorns, talk to Phil at the Arena gate to get the next objective.
The banner marks the start line — Start the Obstacle Course
Phil sets an obstacle run to test you. Interact with the yellow banner behind him to begin. The challenge: complete the course in under two minutes. I recorded a clean run and posted the clip for reference—watch the stream capture if you prefer copying exact timings.
How do I beat the obstacle course under two minutes?
Focus on pathing and collectible placement. Use the shortest route along the platforms and avoid backtracking for coins unless they sit directly on your path. Practice on a few attempts; studying a YouTube clip of the optimal route removes most guesswork.
The course feels like running through a pinball machine—fast, noisy, and rewarding if you pick the right lane.
Moonlight tugs at the treetops — Activate the Moonlight Beacons to clear the fog
After the run, follow Phil back to the Artemis Pedestal area, clear the next patch of thorns, and activate the Moonlight Beacon. Continue deeper, flipping beacons and cutting thorns until the path through the dark woods opens.
A silhouette emerges through the mist — Talk to Hercules
When the fog lifts a cutscene triggers and reveals Hercules in trouble. Walk to him and speak—this wraps the Moonlighting as a Hero quest and immediately starts the next mission, Speedrun Crash Course, which pushes you closer to recruiting Hercules and Phil.
If you still get stuck, check community hubs on Discord and recent Twitch VODs for route snippets—Moyens I/O, YouTube, and active streamers tend to post short clips that remove guesswork. Will you take the hero’s test again to shave more seconds off your run?
