The temple smells of salt and old incense; a figure has knocked a god’s favor off balance and left hexed tiles in its wake. I step between toppled columns and see six empty sockets where the mosaic should be. You can feel the gods watching—quiet, impatient, ready to be placated.
I’ve run this quest across Switch and Steam builds, so I’ll save you the detours and show exactly what I did to finish A Real Godly Mess—and get Hercules and Phil to move to the valley with minimal backtracking. Think of the temple as a sleeping volcano and the mural as a stubborn old lock: once you know the gestures, everything opens.

On my first sweep I spotted six gaps where tiles should sit. Find all the missing pieces of the mosaic
The mural is missing six tiles; they’re all inside the central temple area, so you won’t be sprinting between biomes. Smash the black-and-pink rock formations, clear away dark thorns, and destroy the Greek column rock nodes to reveal fragments. A few tiles will lie on the ground; others will flutter away and force you to chase them.
Before you start, eat a stamina food so you can glide after escaping pieces—this quest borrows a movement cue from the Pegasus Feathers section in the Speedrun Crash Course. If you’re playing on Switch or PC, the controls are identical for grabbing ground pieces and chasing airborne ones, so pick an easy-to-access food for a quick stamina boost.
Once you’ve collected all six, go back to the mural and speak with Hercules and Phil in front of it. Tell Phil you’ve found the pieces and the puzzle prompt appears on the wall.
How do you complete A Real Godly Mess in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
After collecting the six pieces, interact with the mosaic to open a drag-and-drop re-order puzzle. Move pieces from the left into the correct slots on the right. Start with the outer edges, then fill the center; patience beats panic here.
I noticed the puzzle UI is identical to other re-order boards in the game. Complete the puzzle
The puzzle is straightforward: click and drag each tile into place. If you’ve done the Storybook Vale re-order puzzles, this will feel familiar. Begin with corners and borders, then place inner tiles—the game gives visual hints if you hesitate too long.

When I returned to the village I saw an empty coastal plot waiting. Place Hercules’ house in the valley
Patch the mosaic and the darkness lifts from the Hercules area. A sparkling teleport spot appears near the beach; use it to go back to the main valley. Open furniture mode, select the Phil quest icon, and place the home outline anywhere in town.
Interact with the Scrooge McDuck sign to pay the house fee: 10,000 Star Coins. Once you confirm, Hercules is ready to be a valley resident.
Where are the mosaic pieces located?
All six pieces live inside the temple’s main zone—no side trips required. Check near cracked columns, under thorns, and inside cleared rock nodes. If one flies off, glide with full stamina to catch it.
At the camp stove I tested a few recipes to see Phil’s taste. Prepare any five-star meal for Phil
Hercules will move in, but Phil needs convincing. Cook any five-star meal—your choice of ingredients—and take it back to the temple. Hand the dish to Phil during a chat and he’ll warm to the idea of joining you in town.
Popular five-star recipes are well-documented on fan wikis and community hubs such as Reddit and Discord channels for Disney Dreamlight Valley; if you want a quick pick, check the recipes that maximize energy and stamina restoration.
How do I get Phil to join in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
Bring Phil a five-star meal and show him the Dreamlight Thread clue you found. He won’t leave until you promise to look into the trickster, but once you return to the valley he’ll accept the invitation.
On the mosaic’s edge I spotted a shimmering thread in the water. Find a clue about the mysterious trickster

Phil asks you to investigate the prankster. There’s a scrap of Dreamlight Thread caught in the water directly in front of the fixed mosaic—grab it and return to Phil. Promise to research the thread further and he’ll agree to move to town with Hercules.
Once you accept both new residents into the valley, the quest ends and you’ve officially added Hercules and Phil to your roster.
Want to argue about who the trickster is and whether Phil should’ve trusted you sooner?
