Gothic 1 Remake Map: How to Find and Get It Fast

I walk into the Old Camp with nothing but a knife and a hollow map slot. You can feel the economy of the place pressing on your pockets—every sale matters. Buy wrong and you’ve wasted Ore Nuggets you can’t get back.

Shopkeepers mark price tags the same way they do in every market: someone will always undercut — How to obtain a map in Gothic 1 Remake

I’ll keep this short and useful: a map matters, but where you buy it matters more. A map is a lantern in a coal-mine. You’ll meet two vendors in the Old Camp who sell maps early on; one will quietly give you a better deal.

After you make a fresh save, follow the main route toward the Old Camp. Enter through the northern gate, speak to the guard and say Diego sent you—he lets you pass. Walk straight to the castle entrance, then take the right-hand path. The first vendor you run into is Graham.

Graham carries two maps: the Old Camp map and the Colony map. He charges 44 Ore Nuggets for the Colony map. If you buy from him now you lose resources you could spend on a weapon or a quest item.

How do I get a map in Gothic 1 Remake?

Short answer: buy the Colony map from Dexter, not Graham. After Graham, follow the trough and the path beyond him. Turn left, go straight, and you’ll find a cluster of stalls and shops. Dexter is easy to spot by name.

Where should I buy the Colony map?

Buy it from Dexter. He lists the Colony map for 24 Ore Nuggets — 20 fewer than Graham. Paying Graham for the Colony map is buying a color print when you only need a photocopy. That 20-Nugget difference adds up fast if you plan to buy potions, arrows, or later regional maps.

Is the Old Camp map worth buying?

No. The Old Camp is compact; you’ll learn landmarks quickly by wandering. Save your Ore Nuggets for the Colony map or items that actually change how you play. Regional maps can appear later in vendors’ inventories and will mark specific locations, but those are optional.

Want to avoid wasted purchases? Use community tools: check Steam or GOG guides, scan Fextralife’s walkthroughs, and ask on the game’s Discord for vendor spawns and prices. Watching a quick YouTube clip of the Old Camp route also saves time if you prefer visual guidance.

Small choices here ripple into mid-game comfort—will you spend Ore Nuggets on a map or on a better dagger?
