How to Mine Blue Gems in Disney Dreamlight Valley

How to Mine Blue Gems in Disney Dreamlight Valley

I swung my pickaxe once, then twice, and realized the blue gems I’d collected didn’t count. I cursed the clock—Star Path rewards were ticking away—and felt like I was hunting a needle in a tidepool. I sat back, mapped the nodes, and wrote down the exact spots that actually pay out.

I’m going to save you that trial-and-error. You’ll get the specific gem names, where they spawn, which DLC matters, and the quickest ways to push your Seafaring Star Path duty from stalled to finished.

Not every sparkly blue object in Dreamlight Valley counts for Star Path missions. I learned that the hard way, and you will want the short list—no guessing, no wasted swings.

There are exactly four gem types that the game officially flags as blue for event duties. Shiny variants of each will also count. Use this table as your cheat sheet:

Gem How to get
Aquamarine + Shiny Aquamarine Mine rock nodes around the Dazzle Beach and Forest of Valor biomes. Aladdin’s stall sometimes stocks them.
Blue Zircon + Shiny Blue Zircon Mine rock nodes around The Lagoon in Wild Tangle. Requires the A Rift in Time DLC—this gem is exclusive to Eternity Isle. Aladdin’s gem stall in Eternity Isle may also sell them.
Sapphire + Shiny Sapphire Mine rock nodes around Vitalys Mines under the waterfall on Sunlit Plateau. Aladdin’s stall sometimes carries them.
Star Sapphire + Shiny Star Sapphire Mine rock nodes around Everafter. Requires The Storybook Vale DLC—available only in that region. Aladdin’s gem stall in Storybook Vale may sell this one.

What counts as a blue gem in Disney Dreamlight Valley?

Short answer: only Aquamarine, Blue Zircon, Sapphire, and Star Sapphire (and their shiny versions). Pupilless blue things like Pure Ice, Opal, and Diamonds look useful but won’t tick the event box. If you’re trying to complete a Star Path duty, stick to that quartet.

Where can I mine blue gems?

Plan your route by biome. Dazzle Beach and Forest of Valor for Aquamarine; Sunlit Plateau’s Vitalys Mines for Sapphire; Wild Tangle’s Lagoon (Eternity Isle with A Rift in Time DLC) for Blue Zircon; Everafter (Storybook Vale DLC) for Star Sapphire. If you play on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch or Epic Games Store, the geography is the same—only the DLC ownership matters.

How many blue gems do I need for the Seafaring Star Path?

The Seafaring duty asks you to mine 20 blue gems. That’s a lot of precise drops, so you’ll want every percentage point in your favor.

You can grind nodes until your arms ache, or you can stack the right buffs and tools and shave hours off the job. I test runs with and without buffs; the difference is real.

Practical tips that sped me from zero to twenty:

  • Use Miracle Pickaxe Polish or Even More Miraculous Pickaxe Polish. These items raise the number of gems that drop from each node; I saw the highest yield when I stacked the stronger polish.
  • Bring mining-friendly companions. A villager with a mining specialty or a companion with the best friend glow increases node efficiency. Their bonus drops don’t count toward the event, but they save you time and add crafting materials.
  • Hit the right nodes. Target the biomes listed above rather than random nodes. Farming in the wrong biome is as stubborn as a rusted lock.
  • Check Aladdin’s stall. If you own the relevant DLCs, his gem stall sometimes sells the exact blue gems you need—especially useful when you’re short a few pieces.
  • Platform consistency matters. Whether you play on PC via Steam or console, the spawn rules don’t change, but make sure the game version and DLCs are installed and updated.

The reward for mining 20 blue gems is only 10 Tokens for the Seafaring Star Path. That’s small ROI for the time you might spend, so I lean into the event’s other duties while I grind this one—dress a character in the Coral Crown, craft nautical furniture, or feed Sea Turtles for quick extra Tokens.

If you want a fast route: target Vitalys Mines for Sapphires first, then bounce to Dazzle Beach and Forest of Valor for Aquamarines. If you own A Rift in Time or The Storybook Vale DLC, run Eternity Isle and Everafter last to mop up Blue Zircon and Star Sapphire spawns.

One last practical note: if you want to hoard blue gems for crafting or gifting later, mine with companions on hand so you get extra materials while you complete the event duty. Which spawn route will you try first?
