So, what are we all watching this week?
What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

My Sweet Mobster: My interest in this show has been waning in the past couple weeks, but I’m sticking with the show to get to the happy ending, mostly. I found this drama charming because of the way it initially embraced its silliness and slightly kooky sense of humor (it could have gone a lot further and I would have welcomed it, but I’ll happily take the little bit of quirk we got). That said, a show like this tends to dull as it goes more conventional, and we’re pretty firmly in conventional waters now. Most of the conflict has felt perfunctory and a bit paint-by-numbers as the humor took a backseat, and now I’m just here for the finale wrap-up. So while we’ve got endearing characters and a cute found-family dynamic among the mobster household, the plot development leaves something to be desired.

Red Swan: It’s a good thing this show is so wild — and has a short runtime — because it needs both to sustain whatever magical thing it’s got propelling it forward. Oh right, Rain.
Serendipity’s Embrace: Despite loving all 4 actors here — especially my potato boy — and wanting it to be wonderful, this felt like a glorified web drama to me. Now, I don’t mean that badly, just that the exposition felt swift and web drama like, and the drama seems to lack a special flavor of its own. Then again I didn’t watch beyond Episode 1 yet. Shall I continue?

Serendipity’s Embrace: I’m a bit conflicted. Mostly, this feels like the cast is just acting out random rom-com tropes and calling it a story… but it kind of works? It’s cute and easy to watch (and let’s be real, I’d endure a LOT for the sake of Chae Jong-hyeop’s smile), and the whole mixed-up first loves thing makes it all a lot more interesting than it first appeared. Plus the (well-intentioned) meddling uncle is a delight. So, at least for now, I’m enjoying the sweet simplicity for what it is.

Team Bulldog – Off-duty Investigation: Not sure how this little gem passed me by but I really enjoyed this drama, I watched the whole thing very, very fast. A band of misfits being thrown together to solve some pretty grisly murders and a good dose of humor throughout. In my opinion Cha Tae-hyun is good in everything, but there are other familiar faces in this show that made it worth the watch for me.
