tvN’s upcoming drama Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born unveiled veteran actress Ra Mi Ran‘s stills.
Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born tells the story of Yoon Jeong Nyeon, a girl with a talent for singing who strives to become the best Gukgeuk (national theatre) actress. The K-drama is set against the backdrop of the immediate aftermath of the Korean War in the 1950s, an era characterized by poverty.
In this K-drama, The Good Bad Mother actress Ra Mi Ran plays Kang So Bok, the head of the Maeran Theater Company.
After gaining fame as a singer, she gathered female traditional Korean musicians and boldly started a national theater troupe, leading to the golden age of national theater. Though strict with her students, she is even stricter with herself. She is also a figure wielding the greatest influence in the Gukgeuk scene in the 1950s.
In the released stills, Kang So Bok radiates the charisma of the Maeran Theater Company’s head. Dressed in an elegant hanbok, she commands attention not on the stage under dazzling lights, but behind the scenes in the Maeran Theater Company’s audition hall and trainee rehearsal room.
The stills raise anticipation for Kang So Bok, a leader who sometimes reigns over the artists with a firm grip and at other times embraces them.
The production team of Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born commented, “As befitting an actress who needs no introduction, Ra Mi Ran infused Jeongnyeon with tension and gravity through her irreplaceable presence,” adding, “Moreover, the story of Kang So Bok, who was a singer before becoming the head of the Maeran Theater Company, will serve as another pillar in the progression of the story. Please look forward to it.”
Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born is scheduled to premiere on October 12. More news about the K-drama’s global OTT platform is yet to come.
