On May 16, CJ ENM stated to media site Sports World that the airing schedule for tvN’s “Resident Playbook” is undecided, hinting that it might be postponed until next year.
Initially, “Resident Playbook” was included in tvN’s lineup for the first half of the year and generated significant anticipation as a spin-off of the popular “Hospital Playlist” series starring Jo Jung-suk. This series, set in the same universe, focuses on a first-year resident in gynecology played by Go Yoon-jung.
The drama was highly anticipated as the successor to “Queen of Tears”. However, the collective strike by the medical community in March, in response to the government’s policy to increase medical school admissions, has negatively impacted the public perception of residents.
Given that “Resident Playbook” centers on a resident doctor, concerns arose about its potential broadcast difficulties. Following the release of the teaser trailer, viewers expressed skepticism, questioning if the drama would address the strike.
Although filming has been completed, the drama’s broadcast has been postponed to the second half of the year, and tvN even included “Resident Playbook” in its 2nd half’s line-up for K-drama.
However, with no resolution in sight for the strike, “Resident Playbook” faces an uncertain future, possibly being delayed until next year. In the meantime, tvN has started promoting another K-drama in its place.
