Infamous YouTuber “Sojang”, known only by her surname Park, operated a celebrity gossip channel which has 60,000 followers. In May, she was criminally indicted for defaming seven Korean public figures between 2024 and 2024, earning nearly ₩250 million KRW (about $183,000 USD) from these videos. In October 2024, Wonyoung and her management company, Starship Entertainment, sued Sojang for spreading false information about the singer. Their battle against defamation lasted till May this year.
Previously, IVE’s Jang Wonyoung, BTS’s V and Jungkook, as well as Kang Daniel also have already sued Park. But some might not know that Park’s malicious online behavior dates back to the 2010s, if not earlier.
Park was reportedly sued by EXO’s Xiumin when she was using the username Gasahara on DC Inside Gallery, a Korean forum founded in 1999. Although the specifics of the case are not widely known, Gasahara’s DC Inside Gallery post titled “My Record: Sued By EXO’s Xiumin” indicates that she was found not guilty.
In her comment beneath a photograph of a legal document and a receipt with “GASAHARA” written on it, she wrote: “Nope. Not guilty. I just said I wanted to rape him.”
Jang Wonyoung’s victory established a precedent that could assist other idols in pursuing legal action against Park in the future. K-pop fans around the world have sent many congratulatory messages for Wonyoung’s victory.
