The first teaser is out for tvN’s upcoming mystery Maestra: Strings of Truth, introducing us to our central character played by Lee Young-ae (Inspector Koo), the famed violinist-turned-conductor Cha Se-eum.
Right from the get-go, we can tell by the music that things are ~tense~ and in voiceover we hear a man ask our heroine: “What kind of place is the stage to you?” Undoubtedly our Se-eum is immensely passionate about her work, pouring all of her self into each orchestra performance as well as the practice sessions.
Understanding well the dedication and effort involved, Se-eum replies that the stage, “is a battleground, very merciless and fierce.” But despite her success, we’re told that our heroine is shrouded in secrets and the sequence reveals snippets of the cruelty in her life. As we hear someone being called a monster, Se-eum also continues in voiceover that, “Becoming the best orchestra doesn’t just happen.”
Shaken by her memories, Se-eum needs a moment to draw herself back out and return to her senses. The teaser then closes as she stands before the orchestra once again and we end on Se-eum’s confident declaration: “As long as I’m here, Han-Phil [the Han River Philharmonic Orchestra] will become the best.”
Although not yet featured, the series also stars investments CEO Lee Moo-saeng (The Glory), Se-eum’s husband Kim Young-jae (Numbers), and Se-eum’s protégé Hwang Boreumbyeol (The Secret Romantic Guesthouse).
On the production side, directing is helmed by PD Kim Jung-kwon with scripts penned by Choi Yi-yoon and Hong Jung-hee. Adapted from the 2018-19 French series Philharmonia, tvN’s Maestra: Strings of Truth will be premiering next month on December 9.
