IU attended Jiyeon’s wedding in 2024. On that day, she did not only sang to celebrate the occasion and gifted the bride a tiara but also sent a message to the groom: “My friend doesn’t like to cry, so please make her laugh a lot. Be happy!”
However, IU’s wishes for Jiyeon couldn’t come true.
On October 5, the lawyer representing the couple Hwang Jae Kyun and Jiyeon confirmed to South Korean media that the T-ara member had filed for divorce mediation at the Seoul Family Court in September. Jiyeon and her husband are in the process of finalizing their divorce.
Jiyeon’s representative lawyer stated, “Jiyeon and Hwang Jae Kyun were unable to overcome their differences to move forward. Therefore, after a period of separation, they both agreed to divorce and have submitted a request for divorce mediation to the Seoul Family Court. As Jiyeon’s lawyer, I sincerely ask everyone not to make unfounded speculations that could affect both parties during this time.”
The lawyer for the beautiful singer also affirmed that the T-ara member and her husband are parting ways amicably and have reached an agreement among themselves.
Both born in 1993, IU and Jiyeon became same-aged friends after appearing together on the SBS variety show “Heroes”, which aired between 2010 and 2011.
After the show concluded, the female idols continued to maintain exchanges and boasted that they were “best friends”. Back in September, Jiyeon and Hwang Jae Kyun were spotted side by side at IU’s concert, confirming their long-lasting friendship.
According to Jiyeon, IU also stays with Jiyeon both through her toughest and happiest moments and always maintains her loyalty.
