On January 31, a post on X highlighting Lee Gikwang’s attempted Gyeongsang-do satoori (dialect) in “Marry My Husband” gained Korean netizens’ attention.
The post featured a scene from the drama where Lee Gikwang’s character talks to Park Minyoung’s character on the phone.
The scene went viral as netizens pointed out Lee Gikwang’s awkward and inaccurate Gyeongsang-do satoori. Netizens are disappointed with his acting skills, saying he should’ve skipped the dialect if he didn’t know how to speak it right or learned the correct way from a native.
Comments from netizens flooded in:
- His forced accent sounds grating. If you can’t do satoori, just skip it.
- It seems they don’t have anyone on the production team from Gyeongsang-do.
- Did he think any random melody in his tone qualified as Gyeongsang-do satoori?
- He’s so bad. What kind of accent is that?
- He should have practiced with a native if he wanted to sound like one
- He sounds like a Seoul person blending Daegu and Busan dialects; it’s awkward.
