Height difference romance, anyone? JTBC’s upcoming drama Destined With You has released its first teaser, and boy is it full of teasing. Starring Kim Ro-woon (Tomorrow) and Jo Boa (Military Prosecutor Doberman), we’re in for a tale of fate, broken curses, and civil servanthood.
In the drama setup, Lee Hong-jo (Jo Boa) finds an ancient book that breaks the curse that’s been over Jang Shin-yu (Kim Ro-woon) and his family for generations – and as fairy-tale-esque curse-breaking goes, fate is definitely not done with the two of them yet.
In the teaser, we open on an intriguing (and slightly swoony) sequence of Shin-yu staring across at Hong-jo. In voiceover, we hear him say how much his heart is pounding. Meanwhile, Hong-jo stares back and calls him by name, surmising in voiceover that the charm’s power hasn’t kicked in yet. Then, while the haunting music continues to play, we get a bunch of quick cuts. It’s Shin-yu but he’s in Joseon times — there’s a letter, a flame, Hong-jo in hanbok, and an almost-kiss on a hill. The narration then gets somewhat ominous and warns, “Come to your senses!” This is basically everything I want from a fantasy romance teaser, so I have nothing to add.
To balance the ~destiny~ aspect, though, JTBC also dropped an earlier teaser that gives sheer office rom-com vibes. Near kisses, convenient couches for falling on your hot coworker, and rolling chairs used to offset tension? The What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim vibes are high.
Separately, both these teasers excite me; together, I’m not really sure what they form, but I’m still game. Destined With You is written by Noh Ji-seol of 100 Days My Prince fame, and PD Nam Ki-hoon (Tunnel, Big Bet, Kiss Sixth Sense) is at the helm. The drama premieres on August 23 in the Wednesday-Thursday slot.
