Jang Dong-gun Reflects on Private Life Controversy Amid Comeback

On September 26th, actor Jang Dong-gun held a press interview at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul to promote his upcoming film, “A Normal Family.”

This project marks Jang Dong-gun’s return to the big screen after approximately six years, his last appearance being in the historical movie “Rampant.”

The actor’s hiatus was partly due to a private life controversy that erupted when some of his private conversations with fellow actor Joo Jin-mo were leaked following a hacking incident.

During the interview, Jang Dong-gun candidly expressed his feelings about his time away from the limelight and his concerns about potentially impacting the film’s reception as its release date approaches.

“I’m incredibly nervous because it’s been so long since I’ve been in the public eye,” Jang admitted, adding, “I’m grateful that people seem to be enjoying the movie. Being part of this project after such a long time has been tremendously helpful for me. While many may be curious about the film, I’m aware that there’s also interest in my personal life. However, since this isn’t just my own movie, I sincerely ask for understanding regarding my caution and worry about how it might impact the film.”

Reflecting on his hiatus, Jang Dong-gun explained, “While I did take a break, my work pace hasn’t changed dramatically as I don’t typically do many projects. I filmed a drama that was released, but since not many people watched it, it seemed like I was inactive. I’m actually referring to the ‘Arthdal Chronicles’ series.”

He continued, “After that incident, when I returned to filming, even a single line of dialogue felt incredibly precious. Because I became famous at such a young age and received so much love, I had taken things for granted. I realized that it wasn’t something to be taken lightly, and I noticed this change happening within me.”

Scheduled for release on October 16th, “A Normal Family” is a gripping suspense thriller that follows four people whose lives unravel after witnessing their children’s involvement in a crime on CCTV footage.

Directed by renowned filmmaker Hur Jin-ho, known for his works like “Christmas in August”, “One Fine Spring Day”, “The Last Princess,” and “Forbidden Dream”, the film stars Jang Dong-gun as Jae-kyu, a principled pediatrician.
