Team Dramabeans Weekly Watch: August 12, 2024 – missvictrix, DaebakGrits, solstices

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

King the Land: Friends, I’ve stalemated after Episode 15 and I’m not sure I’m able to go on. I’ve seen the wedding, I’ve seen the PPL, I’ve seen the happy ending, and while I’m glad all those things exist (well, the PPL not so much), I think I’m ready to move on. It won’t be the first or last time I’ve left a drama’s final episode lingering for all eternity.

DaebakGrits

King the Land: I wanted a light and fluffy rom-com and this drama delivered. I could have done without the mid-finale fake-out (it was obvious she was going to quit her job), but overall, I’m pleased with how nicely everything ended. I feel like I continuously need at least one sugary sweet, no-high-stakes drama airing at all times to counterbalance all the other dramas with serial killers and/or excessively jealous second leads. Speaking of which…

Heartbeat: I’ve never been a fan of characters who lose their sh!t whenever their crush doesn’t return their feelings. Admittedly, Woo-hyul did lead Hae-won on, so she had a little more reason than most second female leads to feel a little possessive and tossed aside, but her dramatic reactions are eye roll inducing. She straight-up threw a tantrum and had a whole party of people giving her the side-eye for being a cuckoo bird. I’m no dating expert, but I’m pretty sure breaking glasses and proving you’re looney is not the way to convince a man he picked the wrong leading lady.

Not Others: Eun-mi has gone from being an amusing kind of quirky to being straight-up annoying. If she was my mother, I’d have moved to Busan to put as much distance between us as possible. After Episode 7, I found myself wanting to skip through all of her scenes to get to the ones featuring Jin-hee and Jae-won.

Numbers: I speedwatched this out of Inspirit loyalty, which really means I skipped through most non-Infinite scenes with the help of alathe’s recaps to explain things for my numerically-inept brain. Kim Myung-soo truly hasn’t aged a day, and neither has Lee Sung-yeol — it was particularly nostalgic to see them on-screen together again, especially since Infinite just had their comeback! On a side note, Choi Jung-woo was endearingly cute, which makes me sad I didn’t get to watch him in History Boys (please come back for the play’s next run, too). Admittedly, I was never really that invested in any of the characters, so I didn’t form an opinion strong enough to feel any particular way about the show. The recaps were probably more entertaining?

The Uncanny Counter 2: Kim Hieora is a goddess and I love her.
