Team Dramabeans: Our Current Drama Obsessions (June 17, 2024)

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938: I’m in denial that it’s over. The finale was appropriately and wonderfully outlandish and heartfelt. I loved everything about it, convenient plot devices and all. Like I’ve been saying from the start, the characters were always at the center, and so everything that spun around them was totally fine by me. By the end of the drama I not only loved Lee Dong-wook, Kim Bum, and Kim So-yeon more than ever, but I developed a two-part crush on Moo-young (he was always too warm to be evil) and Jae-yoo, the faithful puppy incarnate. I never say this, but: Season 3, please.

Bloodhounds: I only caught the first episode so far, and I only did it for a) the boxing b) Woo Do-hwan, but honestly the growing rapport between the boys was the highlight for me. The way they played off each other and interacted — from fighting in the ring to chatting at the BBQ restaurant — felt so humorous and so realistic. And so, the entire episode became enjoyable, because watching those two banter and switch levels of speech and discuss their training hacks left me having way more fun than I expected.

Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938: So many things in the finale didn’t make sense, and I don’t care — this show was a blast from start to finish, I’m glad everyone got their happy endings, and I can’t wait for Season 3. That said, I did have to create my own rationalization for how in the world all the changes in the past didn’t impact the future at all. So until and unless Season 3 tells me otherwise, my interpretation is that the two timelines split off into two separate universes, one where Season 1 happened and one where it wasn’t necessary because Rang and Yeon (and the other mountain gods) stayed friends.

The Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938: An absolutely crack-tastic watch! Loved every minute of the wild ride, and I’m having massive withdrawal symptoms. I’m tempted to check out the first season for more of the bromance of the fox brothers, but I don’t think I can handle seeing Rang die.

Happiness Battle: I honestly can’t tell why I’m still watching this, but I tune in each week.

Sunbae, Don’t Put on That Lipstick: Aside from the drama’s failed attempt at an English title (She Would Never Know… Never know what??) I enjoyed watching this. Loved the office dynamics, the OTP’s romance (that height difference!!), and the healthy sibling relationship between the male lead and his sisters. The drama also gets bonus points for having such a beautiful poster and a vibrant color palette.
