When the Silver Bell Rings: Four Seniors Find Love

A new romance hits the small screens in time for the holidays over at LG’s U+Mobile TV. The short miniseries When the Silver Bell Rings explores the love lives of four seniors enjoying their “twilight youth” through dating apps and one-night stands. A unique and intriguing premise about the later years in life, the upcoming drama puts the spotlight on those trying to start something new when the world tells them that their lives are ending.

The trailer opens with Park Geum-yeon — played by Song Ok-sook (Dog Knows Everything) — being introduced to a new dating app called Silver Bell. It’s specifically catered to an older crowd where they can chat and meet up with others their age. Geum-yeon joins the app as “No Smoking” (her name is “no smoking” in Korean) and dresses up to meet her online match, architect Sung Nak-won played by Park Sang-won (Beauty and Mr. Romantic).

Nak-won introduces himself as “Paradiso” (his name means paradise in Korean), and the two seniors hit it off as friends. They take in the sights, munch on snacks in the streets, and laugh over drinks. In such a wonderful place, Nak-won sees no qualms in becoming friends.

As these characters relive their first love, the trailer introduces the other pair in this story: Yeh Soo-jung (Dog Knows Everything) as Park Soo-hyang and Ahn Seok-hwan (Mr. Plankton) as her husband Oh Seok-jo. The married couple fly a kite in the snow, and Seok-jo tells Soo-hyang that she’s beautiful. Enjoying their time together, the trailer ends with snippets of their dates, and Nak-won asks if they should play a bit young today?

In addition to the trailer, the show also released two posters with one featuring the four main cast and the other showing a text exchange between Geum-yeon and Nak-won. The tagline for the four-person poster reads, “In life’s twilight, we found our last love.” As for the other poster, her text is looking for another 60-year-old friend interested in eating at a sashimi restaurant in Sokcho, and his text says that right now is just for having fun and separating.

Written by Hong Yoon-jung (Miss Granny) and directed by PD Choi Byung-gil (Tarot), When the Silver Bell Rings is slated for four episodes and premieres Wednesday, December 18.
