Jeon Ji-hyun, Kang Dong-won
Disney+ has announced the star-studded cast for its upcoming spy romance Tempest (previously Polaris). Starring Jeon Ji-hyun (Jirisan) and Kang Dong-won (Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman), the show will not only mark Kang’s return to dramaland after 21 years, it will also reunite the Little Women’s production team with PD Kim Hee-won and writer Jung Seo-kyung working together once more.
Jeon Ji-hyun plays diplomat and former UN ambassador Seo Moon-joo. Her years of experience have made her a trusted figure in the political sphere. One day, she encounters the elite mercenary Baek San-ho played by Kang Dong-won. His nationality as well as his past are shrouded in mystery, but these two individuals will have to work together to figure out the truth behind a huge case.
On the political side of things, Kim Hae-sook (Mr. Plankton) will step into the role of President Chae Kyung-shin, while Yoo Jae-myung (No Way Out – The Roulette) will play the head of the National Intelligence Service. As for the part of Moon-joo’s political aide, Lee Sang-hee (Mr. Plankton) will be the trusted Yeo Mi-ji.
The other half of the cast falls into the family category, and first up is Lee Mi-sook (Queen of Tears) as Moon-joo’s charismatic mother-in-law Im Ok-sun. Playing Ok-sun’s son and Moon-joo’s husband Joon-ik will be Park Hae-joon (Black Out), and Oh Jung-se (Mr. Plankton) will portray Joon-ik’s younger brother Joon-sang.
As for the supporting cast, Joo Jong-hyuk will play Joon-ik’s aide Park Chang-hee, and Won Ji-ahn will be the mysterious Kang Hanna who knows Joon-ik’s secret. Last but not least, John Cho (The Sympathizer) will be making his K-drama debut as U.S. under secretary of state.
Directed by PDs Kim Hee-won (Queen of Tears) and Heo Myung-haeng (The Roundup 4: Punishment) with scripts penned by Jung Seo-kyung (Little Women), Tempest is scheduled to premiere next year.
