A new teaser has come sashaying in for KBS’s Who Is She, following our no-longer-a-granny heroine – played by Kim Hae-sook (Mr. Plankton) and Jung Ji-so (The Glory) – as she learns to shake it like the young’uns of this age in order to fulfill her long-desired singer dream.
In her young adulthood, our Oh Mal-soon had shelved her singing dreams, needing to focus on raising her daughter after being widowed early in her marriage. Time then flew by until the present day with Mal-soon (Kim Hae-sook) now a senior, when the fates miraculously transform her into her younger self (Jung Ji-so) and she’s recruited by music producer Jinyoung (Sweet Home 3) to become an idol trainee.
But as the video teaser explains, on the inside, Mal-soon is still a 70-year-old soul and is perceived by others to be a bumpkin fish-out-of-water for her unfamiliarity with this generation’s culture and styles. Frustrated by her oddities and struggling to teach her, we hear the other trainees and coaches call Mal-soon by mean names.
Granddaughter Chae Won-bin (Doubt) is nice, explaining that Mal-soon reminds her of her grandmother – being unaware that that’s who Mal-soon really is. Daniel Han (Jinyoung) is also sweet, reassuring our heroine that he meant it when he said that he’ll take responsibility for bringing her here.
Mal-soon is worried, though, knowing that she’s hiding her real identity. She wonders about their possible future, but also cautions Daniel not to fall for her (although methinks it’s too late). She continues, asking him, “What if I was fake? What if I’m not the Emily that you’re looking for?” And the teaser then closes on a curious scene with Mal-soon coming face-to-face with a woman who looks exactly like her older self (Kim Hae-sook).
Adapted from the popular 2014 film Miss Granny, production for KBS’s Who Is She has PD Park Yong-soon (Secret Mother) directing and scripts by Heo Seung-min (Risky Romance). Slated to premiere on December 18, the fantasy-comedy follows Face Me in the Wednesday-Thursday slot.
