Exploring Joo Ji-hoon’s Light Shop: Journey Through the Dark Tunnel

Sitting perched along that foggy boundary between the segregated worlds of the living and the dead, Disney+’s Light Shop makes Joo Ji-hoon (Blood Free) our ferryman on the River Styx, strewing a path with the shop’s glowing bulbs to help guide the lost in the latest poster and teaser.

Opening the video teaser on our hero’s conversation with Shin Eun-soo (Twinkling Watermelon), Won-young (Joo Ji-hoon) tells her that, “It’s possible that you saw something that other people cannot see,” and later informs another visitor that, “All sorts of people come to this light shop. How did you come to this place? Not here, but this place.”

However, in contrast to the warm yellow orbs at Won-young’s shop, the lights are starkly sterile at the hospital where we meet nurse Park Bo-young (Daily Dose of Sunshine). When a devastated Park Hyuk-kwon (Uncle Samsik) asks about coma patients waking up, Young-ji (Park Bo-young) replies diplomatically that, “It rests on the will of the patients.” Elsewhere, we hear a woman questioning, “That willpower you speak of, how does it happen?”

Returning to the light shop, we then cut to Bae Sung-woo (The 8 Show) wondering where they are. But Won-young remains cryptic, saying that he also asked the same thing. Kim Min-ha (Pachinko) is curious as well, explaining that, “When I go outside my door, there is a light shop at the end of the alley road. Meanwhile, Seolhyun (Summer Strike) questions why Uhm Tae-gu (My Sweet Mobster) can’t remember her.

As the sequence gives us a peek at some of the many characters in this mystery-horror series, Young-ji reveals with her narration that, “I can see people standing on the line between life and death. These people claim that they saw a bright light. They claim that they saw a dark tunnel. They claim that they met a loved one again.” The teaser then ends with Won-young adding on that, “This place is also where people live. You will meet them.”

Production for Disney+’s Light Shop has actor-turned-director Kim Hee-won (Han River Police) at the helm with writing by the original webtoonist Kangfull (Moving). Opening the spirit gates on December 4, we’ll be diving deep into the 8-episode story with the first four episodes releasing on the day of the premiere. Remaining episodes will follow a two per week cadence thereafter.
