The Story of Amanda the Adventurer 3 Explained

Prologue

Amanda the Adventurer 3 begins with a twist, moving away from Riley’s storyline in its prologue. Set ten years prior, we follow a nameless intruder breaking into Hameln’s top-security facility. After finding a Level 4 Clearance Access Card, he stumbles into a pod room containing eight mysterious pods, though it’s uncertain how many more exist in the sprawling facility, accessible via a separate elevator from Riley’s entrance.

The pods are operational, complete with levers and a control room that appears designed for backup creation. This suggests they are making duplicates of the Amanda the Adventurer show, potentially replicating Rebecca’s consciousness across tapes. The spate of googly eyes in older episodes likely signifies captured children.

This intruder is possibly David, a member of Kate’s team who went missing during their 2003 inquiry into Hameln Entertainment. Their last meeting occurred in 2017, which places the prologue’s events around 2013. David’s fate explains his disappearance, as he was shot by Hameln’s guards.

This prologue unfolds ten years after the Colton Anomaly incident, which inspired Hameln to launch the Shepherd program in 2003. The monitors during Amanda’s scavenger hunt point to this, leading us to believe that Hameln was trying to contain the Anomaly after it harmed staff when Amanda felt threatened.

Back with Riley, we explore the facility where the prologue’s pods make a return. By solving Amanda’s signature puzzles and uncovering obscure secret tapes, we unveil Hameln’s sinister cult-like motives. Seeking a return to Darkness, they identify as “the Curtain,” hoping to channel the power of the Unseen by manipulating children’s innocent minds.

The facility targets children, labeling them as subjects. They initially live in rooms adorned with scattered drawings and toys. Each child’s personality traits are analyzed to assess their controllability. I suspect two of these subjects were Lauren Matthews, who disappeared on June 12, 2003, and Karla Aldeli, gone since November 4, 2002. Another pod with an error message likely belongs to Jordan Cook, who went missing two years before Kate’s investigation.

Jordan’s presence in the tapes raises questions. He was not present during Riley’s Library visit, leading us to wonder if his appearance is linked to his sister nearby or if he was featured on tapes close to the facility. Tragically, Jordan might have been XF582KB-01, a subject destroyed by Shepherd. The googly eyes in the show seem lifeless now, a chilling reminder of their fate.

One vital plot element is the discovery of Sam Colton’s room. Accessible using an authorization code from a secret tape in Amanda the Adventurer 2, it reveals Sam being coerced to follow a script to deceive Rebecca about her father’s absence. This aligns with his escape attempt to find Rebecca, which triggered the Colton Anomaly.

The Anomaly incident took place on April 8, 2003. Sam Colton used an employee’s code to escape and attempted to rescue Rebecca, but their bond proved too strong. The resulting chaos led to his death. Hameln blamed an energy surge from Rebecca’s neuropsychic system for the emergence of the Anomaly, prioritizing her containment over that of the Anomaly.

The Shepherd Program

A crucial revelation in Amanda the Adventurer 3 is the truth about Wooly. He is, in fact, Marcus Moutman, a dedicated employee of Hameln’s Pneumatransference Department. Over 19 years, he worked to contain Amanda, believing that destroying the tapes would release the facility from its grip on the Anomaly.

However, Hameln underestimated the connection between the Anomaly and Rebecca. They successfully replicated the Anomaly through the Shepherd program, morphing Marcus into Wooly, whose mission is now to obliterate every tape featuring Amanda. Losing his identity, Marcus despises his new form and servitude to the Curtain.

Shepherd became as problematic as the Anomaly, causing chaos. While Marcus aimed to control Amanda, the situation backfired, requiring Amanda to keep Wooly balanced to prevent Shepherd from going rogue.

Memories

The main objective in Amanda the Adventurer 3 is to help Rebecca regain her memories and restore her identity. This sharply contrasts with Wooly’s and Hameln’s goal to erase all tapes while keeping Rebecca imprisoned. Kate’s recordings hindered their plans for years, and Rebecca’s recollections of her father and best friend begin to break Wooly’s control.

Years of Hameln’s manipulation have erased Marcus’s essence, leaving behind a vengeful remnant of Shepherd.

Understanding Amanda the Adventurer 3’s Endings

Default Ending

In the default ending, by restoring Rebecca’s memories, Amanda brings Riley to her chamber. Sigils mark her pod, echoing those seen in the Chapel. Although Rebecca is rescued, it’s too late for Marcus. Shepherd appears one last time to take Rebecca, leading to a battle with the Anomaly. Both figures fall, and while Rebecca laments she’ll never be whole again, the struggle is a heartbreaking closure.

True Ending

The true ending unfolds differently if you collect all four secret tapes. In this scenario, as Riley rescues Rebecca, the Anomaly appears bloodied and disarmed, without Shepherd in sight. Rebecca breaks the final tape and banishes the Anomaly to its original dimension, restoring herself wholeheartedly, separated from the Anomaly’s influence.
