Go Ara Searches for Husband Material in The Scandal of Chunhwa

Beginning her quest beyond the palace walls to find herself the perfect husband, we’re greeted by our free love advocate and heroine Go Ara (Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol) in TVING’s first teaser for The Scandal of Chunhwa, introducing us as well to the many suitors vying for her hand.

Now, Princess Hwa-ri (Go Ara) should perhaps be concerned as she has shamefully become the talk of the town, given the social beliefs about gender and propriety during these times. The popularity of the racy novel, “The Love Story of Chunhwa,” has spread across Joseon, delighting Han Seung-yeon (Twelve Nights) and all the giggling ladies in the teaser. But according to the latest gossip that we hear in voiceover, the novel is supposedly based on Hwa-ri’s… er… bedroom activities. Cue the sexy scenes.

Princess Hwa-ri, though, doesn’t seem too perturbed about the embroiling scandal and is instead preoccupied with her goal of finding real love. In a fun sequence of meet-cute tropes, we then catch a dreamy glimpse of her husband candidates: Sungkyunkwan scholar Chani (Under the Queen’s Umbrella) and the talented artist Bae Yoon-kyu (Prism).

Enter the end-game Jang Ryul (Daily Dose of Sunshine) who has a lot of plus points on paper, but is also known to be a ladies’ man. Hwa-ri tries to be imposing, stating, “I am the nation’s princess,” and Choi Hwan (Jang Ryul) teasingly replies that he feels intimidated – making it pretty clear that he’s already smitten. The teaser then comes to a close as our princess takes hold of Hwan’s hand and she happily declares that, “There’s a man I want to marry.”

Directed by PD Lee Kwang-young (Call It Love) with scripts by Seo Eun-jung (So Not Worth It), TVING’s sageuk romance The Scandal of Chunhwa will be premiering next month on February 6.
