In anticipation of its premiere next week, a new video teaser has been released for SBS’s newest webtoon adaptation Taxi Driver (a.k.a. Deluxe Taxi) featuring its main cast.
In a society where real justice has all but disappeared from the legal system, help comes from an unexpected source and is just one phone call away. Operating under the guise of a mysterious cab company called Rainbow Transport, the drivers work as vigilantes. They deliver revenge on behalf of wronged victims who don’t have the means to fight against their rich and powerful opponents.
The owner and head of Rainbow Transport is played by Kim Eui-sung (Arthdal Chronicles), who recruits former special ops agent Lee Je-hoon (Fox Bride Star)to join his cause. When prosecutor Esom (Rescue Me 2) discovers the company’s true purpose, she initially tries to shut them down. But she becomes conflicted when she sees how Rainbow Transport is able to help marginalized people in ways that the law or the police force has failed to do.
The newly released teaser starts off in chaos as police try to re-enact a crime scene while holding off the large group of people swarming around them. Lee Je-hoon looks on in anger and is quickly subdued by the police as he spits out, “No matter what, I’m going to kill you with my own hands.” Kim Eui-sung takes notice of Lee and the two reconvene at a restaurant. Offering his business card and taking Lee to his secret base of operations, Kim makes his proposal, “Forgive? I will never forgive. Wouldn’t you like to join me in taking revenge?”
In a sequence of shots, Lee Je-hoon prepares for a case and actions on it while Esom investigates what happened. She reports, “An unidentified private taxi rammed into the car of a corrupt police officer.” Interviewing Kim Eui-sung, she shows him a photo on her phone and asks, “You know this car, right?”
In voice-over, Lee Je-hoon explains his stance, “I wouldn’t have needed to be here and have this conversation if people like you did your job properly in the first place.” As he speaks, Lee continues his taxi/revenge work and we get a peek at his fellow teammates: Pyo Ye-jin (VIP), Jang Hyuk-jin (Awaken), and Bae Yoo-ram (Bad Detective). There is also a glimpse of the shadowy Cha Ji-yeon (Lost Face 1895) involved in some kind of underground activity before the teaser comes to a close on Lee Je-hoon swerving his car around as the title card overlays the scene.
Directed by PD Park Joon-woo (Doctor Detective) and written by screenwriter Oh Sang-ho (Fabricated City, Code Name: Jackal), Taxi Driver premieres April 9 and will be airing Fridays and Saturdays on SBS following Penthouse 2.
