Recently, it was confirmed that Han Ye-ri (Minari, My Unfamiliar Family) has been cast in mystery thriller drama Hometown, alongside Yoo Jae-myung (Vincenzo) and Uhm Tae-gu (Rescue Me 2). The pursuit for a serial killer in 1999 begins to shed light on a terror incident that occurred ten years earlier.

Yoo Jae-myung plays a police detective who is on the hunt for a serial killer in the countryside in 1999. At the same time, Han Ye-ri’s character is looking for her missing niece. Han Ye-ri and Yoo Jae-myung’s paths collide because of Uhm Tae-gu, playing a terrorist serving a life sentence for his crimes.

The hidden backstory is that Yoo Jae-myung’s wife died ten years ago in the terrorist incident. Due to the guilt for not preventing her death, he’s lived like a ghost, until he’s assigned to a serial murder case that has ties to the terrorist who killed his wife.

The reasoning for Uhm Tae-gu’s crime are unknown. One day in 1989, when he came back from his schooling in Japan, he suddenly unleashed toxic sarin gas at a train station, resulting in the indiscriminate deaths of many. Promptly thereafter, he turned himself in and was given a life sentence.

Han Ye-ri plays the younger sister of Uhm Tae-gu, and the stigma of being related to a terrorist nearly ruined her. Ironically, it was her terrorist brother’s daughter, her niece, that helped her regain her will to live. When she goes missing, Han Ye-ri’s life falls into despair once more.

Saturday-Sunday OCN original series Hometown, directed by Park Hyun-seok (Forest of Secrets 2) and written by Joo Jin, will begin airing in the second half of this year.
