So, what are we all watching this week?
What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

Alchemy of Souls: I love this show. It’s at just the right level of plot, squee, hijinks, and weirdness for me. I don’t think I knew how much I needed a drama that was just straight fun until I started watching this one. Also, I didn’t need another reason to crush on Lee Jae-wook, but yeah…
Cafe Minamdang: Seo In-gook is genius. That is all. When he’s off screen, I tune out.

Alchemy of Souls: I just really wanted something fun to watch and this really hits the spot. Yes, there are some quibbles but… uh… let’s just sweep them up here… and there we go, right under the rug, that’s better.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo: As expected, Park Eun-bin is just love. Also Kang Ki-young! Sadly, I feel the real world may have been much harsher to our heroine. But that doesn’t mean society can’t change for the better and I like that we’re seeing more and more representation in K-dramas about embracing people’s differences.

Alchemy of Souls: Last week, after the first couple of episodes, I was already inexplicably in love with the show. But to be honest, I wasn’t totally sure if I was in love with the characters themselves. That’s no longer true. I love them in all their whacky, earnest glory, and I’m having a blast just watching to see what shenanigans they come up with next. Some parts of the story don’t quite make sense to me, but do I care? Nope — I’m having too much fun!

Extraordinary Attorney Woo: Oh my gosh, this drama is so sweet and whimsical! The whales, especially the ones that jump out of the water whenever Young-woo has an epiphany! The revolving door waltz! The representation! Ahhhhh! Her first day at the law firm felt a bit too much like the first episode of The Good Doctor, but this drama is otherwise charting its own path, and I love it. Glad it came along when it did because I needed another weekly drama to look forward to now that Kiss Sixth Sense has ended.
Kiss Sixth Sense: I enjoyed the flashback to seeing young Ye-sool and Min-hu, but anyone else thinks Ye-sool’s dad was kind of a jerk for not driving Min-hu back to the orphanage that first night? I mean, come on! A young orphan boy wanders around all day trying to help your daughter find your house and you don’t offer him a ride home? Man, that’s cold. BUT OMG LITTLE YE-SOOL’S HAIR AFTER THAT FIGHT! AHHHHHH ADORABLE!!! For the most part I’m happy with how this drama ended, even if I do have some mixed feelings about all the on-again-off-again-ness of our leading couple’s relationship. In some ways, it glorifies what would normally be viewed as a toxic, unhealthy relationship, but it’s done with enough humor and playfulness that does sort of feel like a weird form of foreplay for the two of them. I’m going to give it a pass, I think, because it was entertaining, especially when her team used their feud as inspiration for their latest advertisement.

Link: Eat, Love, Kill: It’s interesting how this show combines murder, mystery, comedy and romance in one pot, and every aspect of it fits in just right, like something Gye-hoon cooked rather than offerings from the sitcom family’s kitchen. Lol. Lee Jing-eun has to be cursed with a long life, because how can a person come so close to dying twice on the same day, and still be such an unrepentant and delusional person? Ugh! Now, won’t it be nice if he just tells them what he knows about Gye-young, so we can close that chapter and move on to other stuff like Gye-hoon confessing to Da-hyun, kiss scenes, and the opening of Gye-hoon’s restaurant — if it ever opens. Seriously, guys, it’s already past midpoint!
It’s Beautiful Now: Soo-jae and the rest of the family at the police station was a scene I really needed to watch, and in the end, family remains family and they’ll always have your back. It’s a pity that just as Soo-jae is coming out of his funk, Yu-na is entering hers. But a little separation to work on themselves is not such a bad thing. Full on romantic Yoon-jae, and Hae-jun’s meeting with grandpa were my favorite parts of this week, and I can’t wait for Hae-jun to meet the rest of the family. Mi-rae’s mum continues to be annoying and half the time, I just want to scream at her to relax! It’s only a matter of time before everyone else finds out why she’s constantly on edge anyway, and she might as well take it easy in the meantime.
Insider: I’m catching up on this drama, and my biggest takeaway so far is that undercover assignments are a definite no-no for me! But then, what’s a revenge drama without a strong motive for the revenge? I still don’t understand half the gambling terms in this show, but spiky haired Kang Ha-neul is a treat for sore eyes and I’m looking forward to him taking over the prison gambling scene soon.
