My Liberation Notes: My favorite part of our most recent episodes was Gu’s whole thing about the city versus the country and the musings about instinct. This bit of writing was amazing (uh, like all of it) and I loved the dichotomy it sets up: in the countryside, living so close to the land and nature keeps life and death raw; in the city, all the noise and hubbub drowns all that out, and everyone becomes numb. And we see that acted out right in front of us when we compare Mi-jung and her co-workers. The drama is so deft at all these cool layers, whether they’re about the individual emotions of characters, or about how we live life and see life more broadly. I could watch this drama on repeat and probably always find new things to think about.
Happiness: Guys, I whipped through this show faster than I thought possible! I haven’t binged that much in a while. And wow, I loved it! The drama’s chill pace and strong characters helped me get through the creepy/scary sections, and I really liked the old school suspense feel the drama packed in via setting and its tight cast of characters. I loved how it was directed, and the soundtrack was fantastic (and is currently on repeat), but yes, it’s our two leads that made the whole thing fly. Excellent casting, excellent chemistry, and they’ve basically become my favorite duo I’ve seen in a long time. Bravo!
Shooting Stars: I’ve stopped expecting this to have an actual plot, and I’m just enjoying all the silly and good fun. Everyone’s having fun acting, and I’m having fun watching. Sometimes that’s enough.

Again My Life: I seem to be stuck on this one. I want to continue watching it, but when I have the time I always find myself reaching for something else instead.
The Sound of Magic: I’m two episodes in, and I’m in love! I was really hoping this would be good, because I love Ji Chang-wook and I love musicals, and so far it’s living up to or maybe even exceeding my hopes. I wasn’t expecting it to be quite this heavy, subject-matter-wise, but that’s not necessarily a complaint.

Showtime Begins!: This drama just makes me so happy — when dogs aren’t dying, of course — but most of my love is reserved for the ghosts. The rules and limitations of what they can and cannot do is a bit murky/inconsistent, but I don’t care. I am here for the silliness, and I’m too entertained to question the logic behind any of it. I also appreciate the way the story has been gradually showing Seul-hae’s affection for Hee-soo shifting to Cha-woong.
Shooting Stars: I’m still not 100% sold on our OTP, but I am growing more interested in them as a couple the more we learn about their shared history, especially now that we know they were never a campus couple. Tae-sung paying for their college’s ad to be pulled was pretty darn endearing, and I appreciate that the hard line Han-byeol has drawn between them stems from an unrequited crush she used to have on Tae-sung.
