Time slot: Tuesday
Broadcaster: JTBC
Genre: Teen, coming-of-age
Episode count: 8
JTBC’s new teen drama Live On premieres this week in its Tuesday night slot. This means the 8-episode drama only airs once a week, but for the customary eight-week stretch. Okay, I guess? Live On has a fresh, young cast of idols dipping their toes into acting, balanced with some more (relatively) experienced young actors. We’ve got NU’EST and Wanna One’s Minhyun leading the pack, with former Momoland member Yeonwoo and Victon’s Choi Byung-chang in support roles. Rounding out the cast are some faces you might recognize from other dramas: Jung Da-bin (from Extracurricular), Noh Jong-hyun, and Yang Hye-ji (Lee Jae-wook’s crush in I’ll Find You on a Beautiful Day!).
Live On is set in the microcosm of high school, where Jung Da-bin is an SNS queen — but, she also has a big secret to protect. She joins the school’s broadcasting club to find out who’s trying to expose said secret, and that’s where she runs into Minhyun, the club leader. So, is this coming-of-age story going to be swoony and sweet, or are we looking at a darker high school tale where secrets hide crimes and taboos, instead of one-sided crushes, plushies, and heart fluttering cuteness? The trailer doesn’t give me enough to be sure, so we’ll have to wait and see. (Also, in case you obsess over things like this too, the title of this drama is “live” as in “live broadcast,” not “live” as in “I live in Seoul.”)
