With the launch of Destiny 2: Renegades right around the corner, there’s a buzz around its intriguing “Star Wars-inspired” themes. Whether this mix genuinely fits the Destiny narrative remains to be seen.
As a long-time player, I can tell you that these collaborations can sometimes feel forced. Sure, blasters and lightsabers might work, but do they truly belong in the world of Destiny? I was skeptical at first, but I’m warming up to the idea.
Today’s livestream and ViDoc shifted my perspective. The much-anticipated soundtrack reminiscent of John Williams, epic battles between good and evil, and the allure of being an outlaw in a cosmic wild west captured my imagination like never before.
In Renegades, we have our “Jedi,” Aunor, and our “Sith,” Dredgen Bael, whose character seems influenced by Kylo Ren’s iconic persona. The idea of them dueling with the new Praxic Blade, an Exotic sword, is both thrilling and nostalgic. For the first time in a while, I felt genuinely excited.
I’ll admit I’m feeling a bit of Star Wars fatigue like many others. Yet, lightsabers have that undeniable cool factor. While Destiny has had its fair share of swordplay for years, swinging one around to deflect fire is a uniquely Star Wars twist that surprisingly doesn’t bother me.
One of the standout additions in Renegades is the “Lawless Frontier” activity. As a Guardian, you’ll take on shady jobs in the lawless expanse of Mars. This Bounty Hunter dynamic, similar to Boba Fett’s adventures, feels authentic to the Destiny universe. Count me in!
I can’t predict if Renegades will reignite my passion for Destiny. Reflecting on this summer’s expansion, The Edge of Fate, it was decent at best. According to Steam, I haven’t logged in since August, and I doubt I’m alone in that feeling.

While I sense my days of playing Destiny 2 several times a week might be behind me, I’m still hopeful for a compelling story that advances the plot after the revelations in The Edge of Fate. I remain uncertain whether this Star Wars-themed journey will deliver that excitement.
Cautiously optimistic, I’m eager to dive into Renegades and see if it strikes the right balance of cool and Star Wars-esque adventure. Mark your calendars for December 2nd—I’ll be right there to explore everything it has to offer.
