New Character Posters Released for tvN’s Arthdal Chronicles

New posters have been released for tvN’s historical fantasy Arthdal Chronicles featuring the drama’s four leads: Jang Dong-gun (Suits), Song Joong-ki (Descended From the Sun), Kim Ji-won (Fight My Way), and Kim Ok-bin (Children of a Lesser God).

The drama tells a story about mysterious legends and adventures in ancient Korean times, with the mythological city of Arthdal at its center. It is here that our four heroes meet, each carving out their own paths, facing off against their destiny, and setting history’s course for Gojoseon – Korea’s first kingdom.

Within this epic tale, Song Joong-ki plays the role of Eunseom. In the poster, we see he is dressed in tribal attire, his face adorned with war paint, and he has a look of strong determination. Although the character grew up among the Wahan tribe, Eunseom was always considered to be somewhat of an alien due to his mixed parentage. The Wahan being his mother’s people and his father coming from the Neantal group. Still, when the Wahan are all captured and taken to Arthdal, Eunseom bravely chooses to stand up against the enemy and fights to rescue his people – even if he has to do it alone.

Similar to Song Joong-ki, Kim Ji-won’s character of Tanya is dressed in Wahan garments and a painted face in her poster as well. But there is warmth in her face and a small smile, which are in line with the character’s bright personality. However, Tanya is not without challenges of her own. She shoulders a lot of responsibility in her life as she is next in line as heir to the Wahan tribe’s matriarchal leadership.

Jang Dong-gun plays the character of Tagon, whose character poster has a darker color palette and shows him atop a seat of power. Described as a master strategist and head of the most powerful military army, he is also the first born son of one of Arthdal’s leaders. However, as he deals with his father, played by Kim Eui-sung (My Fellows Citizens) and the other cunning members of Arthdal’s leadership, Tagon starts to harbor his own personal ambitions for power as well.

Last but not least, Kim Ok-bin plays the role of Tae-al. Similar to Jang Dong-gun’s Tagon, Tae-al is also featured in darker colors on her poster, and is characterized by her charisma, confidence, and ambitions. Her father, played by Jo Sung-ha (100 Days My Prince) is a captain of a pirate crew who brings bronze technology to Arthdal from his travels to the far west. However, in order to rise above her station in life, Tae-al jumps into the foray of politics determined to succeed at all costs.

In anticipation of the drama’s premiere this week, a special behind-the-scenes episode was broadcast on Sunday, May 26. Titled Arthdal Chronicles: the Beginning of Legends, the special episode also included highlights from episodes to come and interviews with the cast. tvN’s upcoming Saturday-Sunday drama, Arthdal Chronicles, will be airing its first episode on June 1.
