You would think that a ballerina and an angel would be a much sweeter combo than what we have here. KBS’s Angel’s Last Mission: Love has recently released two new trailers featuring leads Shin Hye-sun (Thirty But Seventeen), L (or Kim Myung-soo, Miss Hammurabi), and Lee Dong-gun (Fox Bride Star). The two clips have some more serious vibes to them than I expected, especially since we’re talking about a rom-com between an errant angel and a top ballerina, but I’m hoping we get plenty of fish-out-of-heaven hijinks along the way.
In the teaser featuring our two leads, the clip starts off with our ballerina looking like she’s about to get into an accident, if the falling glass is any indication. She’s shielded by white wings, though the tone of the clip abruptly changes as she asks us who we think is protecting whom. The poor angel, without wings, is seen struggling on the judo mat as Shin Hye-sun coldly watches from the side. And when he does have wings (they’re really going for the white wings in this drama, huh?), the hot-tempered ballerina grabs at them during a fight. L, as the angel, says that he doesn’t want to have to do anything with that ‘ajumma,’ as we see them pettily bickering, culminating in her calling the cops on the angel. The clip takes a serious turn in the last ten seconds, where we see a car crash, the ballerina literally dancing on the ledge of a bridge, and the angel running somewhere with purpose.
The next teaser focuses on Lee Dong-gun’s character, a well-known artistic director of the ballet company Shin Hye-sun is a member of. He watches the ballerinas move and adjusts several poses, while telling us that he “believes in [his] choices.” He addresses Shin Hye-sun offscreen, saying that she will definitely “return to the top” and that he will “make that happen.” Intercutting his dialogue are snippets of a ballerina dancing on stage, who we presume is Shin Hye-sun before something happened to her that affected her ability to dance. I have to say that the mood of Lee Dong-gun’s clip was a bit eerier than expected, because his character comes off as a little obsessive with Shin Hye-sun as the object of his obsession, but maybe that’s just more emphasized in this clip and won’t be as apparent in the actual show. Let’s hope so.
Angel’s Last Mission: Love will premiere on May 22 and take over KBS’s Wednesday-Thursday slot from currently airing Doctor Prisoner.
