Another video teaser has been released for tvN fantasy Abyss, featuring the lead actors as well as some of the supporting cast.
Park Bo-young (Strong Woman Do Bong-soon) and Ahn Hyo-seop (Thirty But Seventeen) star in the drama as two people who find themselves suddenly in the afterlife after being tragically killed. However, the two discover a mysterious abyss and magical orbs, which allow them to be reborn into different bodies – giving them the opportunity to find the person who murdered them.
In the new teaser, we finally get to see glimpses of the main characters’ original incarnations, played by Kim Sa-rang (Beloved Eun-dong) and Ahn Se-ha (Big Issue). Supporting actors Lee Sung-jae (Jealousy Incarnate) and Lee Shi-un (Player) make appearances as well. Intriguingly, there is also a cameo from Hundred Million Stars From the Sky actors, Jung So-min and Seo In-gook as grim reapers!
The video starts with Ahn Hyo-seop’s speaking, “Abyss… In any case, you’re saying that I was reborn because of this orb.” We see Ahn soaking wet and dressed in a white suit covered with blood. His examination of his new body (and looks very pleased with it), is intercut with a shot of Ahn Se-ha crying. Over the sequence, we hear grim reaper Jung So-min: “Aren’t humans typically reborn with similar physical features? Why did this man become so good-looking?” The camera cuts to both grim reapers as Seo In-gook asks, “Is he crazy?” Jung replies, “Definitely.”
The scene changes to Ahn Hyo-seop walking down a ramp with Park Bo-young. He asks, “You’re Go Se-yeon, aren’t you?” To which Park warily responds, “Who are you?” There next sequence takes place in the rain with Ahn Hyo-seop lying on the ground as a woman with a red umbrella takes off his cap. The scene switches to Park Bo-young standing with a man under a black umbrella. She starts to collapse and Ahn runs in from behind to catch her. The two reconvene in a restaurant and Park complains, “Hey, how come you were reborn into that body and I was reborn like this?” The two eat together as Ahn Hyo-seop replies, “Look, it’s because of your attitude that you were reborn like that.” As Park explains how beautiful she used to be, (I guess we should suspend our disbelief regarding Park Bo-young now being “plain”) we flashback to her previous incarnation and see Kim Sa-rang surrounded by a crowd of admirers. “I used to be so beautiful that people would fall for me at first sight.” Cut to Ahn standing behind Park as the two look at a mirror. He says to her, “Your style of appearance doesn’t really make the heart flutter. In this state, wouldn’t you say that I’m more dangerous?”
As Ahn Hyo-seop speaks, the scene transitions to Lee Shi-un slumped over his desk. Lee Shi-un sighs, “That girl…” The audio overlaps with another man’s voice asking, “By any chance, did that woman who dumped you to study abroad text you?” As Lee Shi-un replies, “Do I seem that weak to you?” we see Lee running toward Park Bo-young and Ahn Hyo-seop before wrapping a shocked Park in a bear hug while yelling, “My So-yeon!” The scene changes to Lee Sung-jae performing surgery while we hear a woman say, “He’s really incredible.” The camera pans across a series of newspaper clippings and photos on a bulletin board. Overhead, we hear Park Bo-young asking, “Who? Oh Young-chul? Well, he is a famous surgeon.”
Park Bo-young struts into a law office while Ahn Hyo-seop follows along in awe. Ahn asks in voice-over, “By the way, why are illegal things so natural to you when you call yourself a prosecutor?” Cut to the two walking through a tunnel that’s occupied by a large group of homeless people. As Park stoops down to talk to one person, we hear her voice saying, “Until we catch that bastard, I need to at least make money to pay the bills.” As she speaks, there is another sequence of shots: a woman running through a dark warehouse barefoot, and a different pair of legs walking slowly alongside a metal stick dragged across the ground. There’s also a shot of police crowding around a burial site and shots of Ahn Hyo-seop and Park Bo-young running. The teaser ends with Park standing in front of her grave as she says, “Just wait. I’m going to catch the guy who killed you.”
Upcoming fantasy drama Abyss premieres on May 6 and will be airing Mondays and Tuesdays on tvN.
