Pokémon Go Raid Battles Explained

Pokémon Go raid battles are special events at gyms where you can fight a boss Pokémon. Ongoing raids are indicated by a Raid Boss symbol, while upcoming ones show an egg with a timer. The higher the tier of the raid, the more challenging it will be.
Winning a raid battle allows you to catch the boss Pokémon, with a shiny rate of 1 in 20 encounters—an exciting opportunity for collectors!
What are Raid Hours in Pokémon Go?
Raid Hours occur every Wednesday from 6 PM to 7 PM local time, featuring only Tier 5 Raid Bosses across all gyms. This is an excellent chance to snag a Legendary Pokémon with increased catch odds, so make sure you have enough Raid Passes.
How can you obtain Raid Passes in Pokémon Go?
Each trainer can collect one free Raid Pass daily by simply interacting with a gym. Note that these free passes cannot be stacked—use your active pass to receive another.
You can also acquire Premium Battle Passes, obtainable through research tasks, special events, or by purchasing them. Remote Raid Passes help you join raid battles from afar and can be bought in sets of three.
If you’re considering purchasing passes, opt for the bundle of three to save some in-game currency compared to buying them individually.
Pro Tip:
By starting with two Remote Raid Passes, you can increase your total maximum from three to five by purchasing an additional set.
Have you joined any raid battles this month? We’d love to hear about your experiences!
How can you start a Pokémon Go Raid Battle? To initiate a Pokémon Go Raid Battle, simply interact with an ongoing raid at a gym.
Is it feasible to solo a Pokémon Go Raid Battle? Yes, while it’s possible to handle some raid bosses by yourself, many will require a group for success.
Can shiny Pokémon be found in Raid Battles? Shiny Pokémon have a chance of appearing, with roughly 1 in 20 encounters leading to a shiny find.
