Gravity is the force that keeps everything grounded, and in a world where quirks reign supreme, Ochaco’s power allows her to manipulate it. Her quirk, Zero Gravity, lets her nullify gravitational force, rendering objects weightless. But here’s the catch: she must make physical contact with her target to activate her abilities. After that, folding her hands quickly cancels the effect.

This quirk might sound incredibly powerful, but like all abilities, it comes with its own limitations that warrant discussion.

While Zero Gravity is impressive, it has notable weaknesses that can impact Uraraka’s performance:

  • Physical contact is required to activate her quirk.
  • Uraraka can only levitate objects weighing up to 3 tons (approximately €2,730).
  • The more weight she levitates, the more strain it places on her body.
  • Prolonged use can induce nausea.

Did Uraraka Have a Quirk Awakening?

Throughout her journey, Uraraka has demonstrated diverse uses of her quirk—whether offensively by summoning objects or defensively by levitating them. However, true transformation came during the final war when she faced Himiko Toga, pushing her quirk to its limits. This confrontation led to a significant quirk awakening:

In this critical moment, Uraraka shed two major limitations of her quirk: the necessity of touch and the weight restriction of 3 tons. She developed the ability to create gravity bubbles, allowing her to send targets flying on contact. This awakening enabled everyone in her vicinity to levitate, although she faced challenges in controlling her enhanced powers.

Interestingly, the creator of My Hero Academia, Kohei Horikoshi, initially envisioned Ochaco with a completely different ability—Gigantification. At one point, he even considered making her similar to the character Mt. Lady. However, he scrapped this idea, feeling that it didn’t align with the series’ main female character. Ultimately, this decision led to the beloved Zero Gravity quirk, which fans appreciate immensely. What do you think of Uraraka’s quirk? Share your thoughts in the comments!
