Jungle Cruise 2: Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt Doubt Sequel Happening

Things have dramatically changed in just four years. Back in 2021, as the world emerged from a global pandemic, Dwayne Johnson, one of the biggest names in entertainment, released his family blockbuster, Jungle Cruise. The film was a success, even as it debuted on Disney+, leading to immediate plans for a sequel that many of us found unsurprising.

However, the following years saw the release of Black Adam and Red One, making it appear as if Johnson’s box office appeal was beginning to wane. In a noticeable shift, he transitioned to more indie films, teaming up again with Jungle Cruise co-star Emily Blunt in the MMA drama The Smashing Machine. This film received some of the best reviews of his career, highlighting a clear evolution in his career trajectory.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Johnson and Blunt shared their thoughts on the potential of Jungle Cruise 2. Both responded with a somber, “I don’t think so.”

Johnson explained, “I think when Disney came under new leadership, they just shifted coming out of COVID. COVID changed our business in so many ways. They assessed the property and decided, ‘We did it once, not sure if we should revisit it again,’ regardless of our chemistry.” In response, Blunt added, “They did not want to set sail again, and that’s fine.”

Despite this disappointing news for fans of the original film, Johnson remains a significant part of Disney’s future projects. He will reprise his role as Maui in the live-action adaptation of Moana, which recently had a record-breaking trailer debut. He’s also set to appear in Zootopia 2 in a small voice role. Unfortunately, it looks like the adventures inspired by the Disney ride may have come to an end for now.
