“Maul comes from a time of magic… now he’s witnessing an Empire he anticipated, draining the color and vibrancy from the universe,” Witwer elaborated. “How does he react to this? It’s not what he expected, so he’s questioning his place in all of it. What does he intend to do? Does he even have the means?” This exploration of identity and purpose will be central to Maul’s journey, as he seeks out another apprentice that Witwer has teased as being “quite something.”
Interestingly, Witwer emphasized that Shadow Lord will not follow the traditional redemption arc for its titular character. “He remains a villain in this series,” the actor confirmed. “We’re portraying bad guys battling against even worse adversaries, so Maul is just as malevolent as before—if not more so.”
