Batman Meets Deadpool: Epic DC and Marvel Crossover Event

Exciting news for comic book fans! Marvel and DC are rekindling their long-standing rivalry and partnership as they unite two of their most beloved characters, Batman and Deadpool, for a thrilling showdown that will unfold across multiple comic pages later this year. This collaboration promises to bring a fresh spin to the superhero genre, and you won’t want to miss it!

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, the crossover will primarily feature two one-shot comics. On the Marvel side, acclaimed writer Zeb Wells, known for his work on Deadpool and Wolverine, is crafting a tale titled Deadpool/Batman, illustrated by the talented Greg Capullo, who has a notable history with Wolverine: Revenge. You can expect this comic to hit the shelves on September 17. Meanwhile, DC will present Batman/Deadpool, penned by the legendary Grant Morrison (famed for All Star Superman) and brought to life through the artistry of Dan Mora (Batman/Superman), arriving in November. While Marvel’s comic explores Wade Wilson taking on a job in Gotham City—much to Batman’s dismay—DC has kept its plot details under wraps. Nevertheless, both companies have teased “backup adventures” that will include thrilling match-ups between various Marvel and DC characters, which adds to the excitement.

Grant Morrison expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I don’t do many comics these days but there was no way I could turn down the chance to work with Dan Mora again, one of my all-time favorite artistic collaborators—and definitely no way I could turn down Batman and Deadpool! Expect 4th wall-busting mayhem, owls, blood, blades, and at least one giant typewriter!”

On the other hand, Zeb Wells shared his delight in this unique collaboration. “After writing Amazing Spider-Man for 60 issues, I told Marvel I needed a break,” Wells remarked. “They told me I could do that or write a comic starring Deadpool and Batman with the best Batman artist of our generation. I no longer needed a break.” He added that Batman is even less tolerant of Deadpool’s antics than Wolverine, setting the stage for a memorable narrative.

This won’t be the first time Marvel and DC have united their iconic heroes. It has been over 20 years since they last collaborated, with previous projects bringing Spider-Man and Superman together, alongside crossovers featuring the Justice League and Avengers. Jim Lee, the legendary artist and current CCO and Publisher at DC, elaborated on the long intervals between such events. He explained, “It happens kind of once every generation of readers. The timing has to be right… You want them to feel special. It’s complex, with a lot of coordination, collaboration, and approvals needed.”
