Marvel Bypasses San Diego Comic-Con Hall H Again This Year

Exciting developments are unfolding in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially with the notorious villain Doctor Doom ramping up his presence. With his sights set on the Fantastic Four and the Avengers, anticipation is building for his upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday. However, fans will have to wait a bit longer, as its release has been pushed to December 2026, sidelining Marvel Studios’ traditional Hall H panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news, which was later confirmed by sources within Marvel Studios. While disappointing for fans, the reasons behind this decision make sense. Originally slated for a May 2026 release, Avengers: Doomsday will now see a full Comic-Con year before its debut, meaning less time for promotional material and footage from the cast currently deep in production.

Past Comic-Con Absences

This isn’t the first time Marvel Studios has opted out of Hall H. In 2011, 2015, 2018, and 2023, the studio decided against participating due to tight production schedules or a lack of news that met their high standards. When Marvel presents a panel, it’s a major event, often stealing the spotlight from other sessions. Last year’s panel, which ended with monumental announcements like the return of the Russos for two Avengers films and Robert Downey Jr.’s unexpected role as Doctor Doom, set a very high bar.

Production and Promotion Timing

With just one movie in production—already delayed to allow for more creative time—Marvel likely deemed it impractical to take part in Comic-Con this year. Promoting a film that is still a year and a half away without any footage would seem excessive. Fans can expect a much stronger showing next year, which could include footage, cast appearances, and new announcements about the MCU’s future.

Marvel’s Comic-Con Plans

While Marvel won’t participate in Hall H this year, that doesn’t mean they’ll be absent from Comic-Con entirely in 2025. Other branches of the company will host panels focused on comics, games, and more. With The Fantastic Four: First Steps set to release around the same time, attendees can look forward to a significant Marvel presence on the convention floor, complete with an immersive booth and promised surprises. Last year, for example, Marvel hosted a special showing for Deadpool & Wolverine. Fans might be treated to a similar surprise this year.

Upcoming Marvel Events

Marvel fans won’t have to wait too long for updates. The company will showcase news and footage at CCXP in Mexico this weekend, particularly relating to the Fantastic Four. The buzz around this franchise continues to be strong, and it will be exciting to see what Marvel reveals.
